The Polytechnic University of Cartagena (UPCT) has today carried out various activities in pursuit of social inclusion, a theme of the Volunteer Week that is taking place in the Casa del Estudiante.
In this line, the researchers of the Polytechnic of Cartagena Marcos Ros and Fernando García have participated on Wednesday in the second day 'Social inclusion, access to housing and urbanism', held at the Cultural Center Las Claras, which have claimed the development of houses of official protection as one of the formulas to fight against exclusion from urban planning and housing policies.
"Access to housing, which has been less talked about since the beginning of the crisis, continues to be a serious problem for young people and the working classes, but especially for people at risk of exclusion," said Ros.
The planners of the UPCT have recalled that the construction of sheltered housing "has practically disappeared", although the Land Law mandates that new developments have 30% of this type of property.
"We must effectively regulate the reserve for VPO and implicate in its fulfillment the City Councils and the Community," said Ros, who along with Garcia has also proposed the protection of rental as a fundamental right against the speculative swings associated with tourism and the development of an inventory of vulnerable neighborhoods for their revitalization.
On the other hand, the Student House of the UPCT is hosting since Monday the VI Week and Fair of Volunteering and Diversity, with the aim of publicizing Volunteering as one more activity in the formation of transversal competences throughout life.
This Wednesday the Volunteering and Diversity Fair is held, which brings together 30 social entities and inaugurated by the rector, Alejandro Díaz, asking students to "become aware and take the step" towards volunteering, an activity in the It gives a lot but it is also received, "explained the rector, noting how volunteers improve" in self-esteem, personal growth and employability ".
«Make a difference», he pointed out before remembering the UPCT Code of Ethics as a sign that «the University must set an example».
During the fair a solidarity coffee is being donated, donated by the Pérez Campos company, whose funds will go to the Accem refugee aid association, which has provided the musical performance of the Ngoma Africa group, with which the day has begun.
Finally, and on the occasion of the celebration of the World Day of fight against HIV-AIDS, a series of activities have been programmed in the university environment, among them the detection of the HIV infection in a fast way, that in the UPCT will be realized today until 2:00 pm at the Casa del Estudiante.
