On the third day of the Cartagena International Film Festival, FICC47, on Tuesday, November 27, films of different genres will be screened: Terrorists, gangsters, science fiction and ruptures.
The eight short films in the competition and the award-winning feature films 'Pájaros de verano' and 'High Life' stand out from the program.
In addition, there will also be a workshop on 'Cooperative Cinema' given by Cartagena filmmaker David Macián, director of 'La mano invisible'.
Municipal auditorium 'El Batel'
'Red Yellow Red', a short film directed by Teresa Bellón and César F. Calvillo about the difficulties of a father and son to talk about politics, is the one chosen to open the Official Section of the FICC47 on its third day: on Tuesday, 27 November, in Room B of the municipal auditorium 'El Batel' at 18:00 hours.
Next, the short film 'The open ruptures', by Juan Carlevaris, will be screened, which tells of the breakup of a couple and is set in the streets of Madrid's Malasaña district.
After the two short films, the feature film 'Birds of Summer', Oscar 2019 candidate for Colombia and which opened the Directors' Fortnight at Cannes 2018, will be screened. The film tells the real story of a family that leads marijuana trafficking in the country. La Guajira desert, in the 70s. In the words of its director, Cristina Gallego, "a gangster film headed by a challenging, powerful and intuitive woman".
The Official Section continues at 9:00 pm in Room B of 'El Batel' with the short film 'Forgive Me', by the Kosovar Besim Ugzmajli.
In 14 minutes, the short story tells how young Bujar is manipulated by a Kosovar imam to join terrorist groups fighting in Syria.
He enlists secretly for the war and his brother Agron, horrified by Bujar's actions, confronts him and asks him to return to Kosovo.
After this short, it is the turn of the feature film 'High Life', which was part of the Official Selection out of competition at the Sitges Festival 2018 and shined with its own light at the San Sebastian Festival 2018, where it was nominated for Best Film besides to get the FIPRESCI Award.
The film, starring Robert Pattinson and Juliette Binoche, is a science fiction story where a group of convicts are offered a space mission with the guarantee of lowering their sentence.
They must explore the black hole that is supposed to be the origin and the end of the universe.
The parallel sections of the festival continue on Tuesday with 'La Panda de la Selva' within the 'Animated Story' section, which has the youngest as protagonists.
It will be screened at 9:45 am in Room B of the municipal auditorium 'El Batel'.
Finally, the award-winning Cartagena filmmaker David Macián, director of 'La mano invisible', will be in charge of giving a workshop on Cooperative Cinema within the parallel activities of the FICC47, in the multipurpose room of 'El Batel', at 5:00 p.m. at 8:00 p.m.
The workshop will talk about the pros and cons of making a cooperative film in order to improve the formula and consider it tomorrow as another option when facing a film project.
Ramón Alonso Luzzy Cultural Center
The 'Nouvelle Vague' cycle, with special screenings for ESO and Bachiller students, will screen 'Los cuatrocientos golpes' (France, 1959), directed by the legendary François Truffaut, one of the founders of the Nouvelle Vague.
It will be at 10:00 hours at the Ramón Alonso Luzzy Cultural Center.
The cycle 'Murcine', a specific section for the filmmakers of the Region of Murcia, offers on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. in the Luzzy another five short films: 'El encuentro', by Juan Alcaraz;
'The best short film in the world', by Daniel Juan Zapata;
'Empathy', by Juan Carlos Martínez;
'Yayoflautas', by Jesús Martínez;
and 'Último adiós', by Pedro Escribano.
Another of the parallel sections that will host the cultural center will be the section 'Europa.doc' that seeks to expand our knowledge of the European environment beyond fiction, proposing a selection of documentary feature films.
On Tuesday 27 it is the turn to 'Notes for a robbery film', directed by Leon Siminiani.
The long, autobiographical dye, was awarded at the Albacete Film Festival (Abycine Award) and was part of the New Directors section of the San Sebastian Festival 2018. It begins with Elías, a film director who dreamed of making a film of robberies.
After reading a story about the arrest of 'The Robin Hood of Vallecas', the leader of 'the gang of sewers', sends a letter to the prison where he is serving his sentence.
Against all odds, Elias receives an answer three weeks later: 'Robin Hood' accepts that he goes to jail to visit him.
