The SAIT and the researchers in New Devices of Safety in Machines expose this Thursday in FREMM its developments to prevent labor risks
Immersive training in occupational hazards, in which workers experience in the first person and with the maximum fidelity that virtual reality technologies allow, is reaching new milestones thanks to the developments of the research group in New Safety Devices in Machines and Technological Transfer Support Service (SAIT) of the Polytechnic University of Cartagena (UPCT).
These developments, which include driving simulators of tractors, forklifts and urban professional vehicles, a walker to simulate evacuations and accidents of fall in height and an ergonomic suit, will be shown on Thursday in a day to be held in the Federation Regional Metal Companies of Murcia (FREMM), in which UPCT researcher Lola Ojados will give a talk.
One of the last applications of this group of the Polytechnic is a virtual tour of the buildings of the UPCT in different emergency situations.
Modeled in three dimensions the work and study spaces of the Polytechnic, users can recreate with different platforms the evacuation routes that they should complete in dangerous circumstances such as a fire and learn how to implement evacuation plans in the face of the emergency.
A motion capture system digitizes in real time the movements of a person who carries sensors in different parts of his body.
In this way, the other application developed in the UPCT allows the worker to be shown what actions taken daily in his professional activity are ergonomically healthy and which are not.
In addition to these developments, this research group has also created a driving simulator for vehicles related to agricultural work, such as a tractor, or urban as a bus line.
This simulator has already been used in the occupational risk training of numerous workers.
The researchers of the Polytechnic, along with the Service of Industrial Design and Scientific Calculation and the Service of Prevention of Labor Risks of the UPCT already showed, during the days of Crue-Sustainability held in Cartagena, responsible for sustainability, prevention of occupational risks and equality policies of 34 Spanish universities some of their developments in virtual reality oriented to the prevention of occupational risks and to the adaptation of jobs to sustainable and healthy environments.
The research group on New Safety Devices in Machines is also developing an accident investigation project in collaboration with the Ministry of Employment.
