"La Mujer de la Montaña" will be the film commissioned to inaugurate this Sunday, November 25, the 47th edition of the Cartagena International Film Festival, in room B of the El Batel Auditorium and Conference Center.
The film that opens the FICC47 is the Icelandic 'The Woman of the Mountain', directed by the prestigious Benedikt Erlingsson.
She has been nominated for the Grand Jury Prize at the Cannes film festival in 2018, and is the 2018 Lux Film Prize of the European Parliament and Audience Award at the Seville Festival 2018.
The plot follows a music teacher who leads a double life: on the one hand, she is a kind of environmental guerrilla activist, who fights in secret and alone against the excesses of the big energy companies of her country, at the same time who receives the news that the Ukrainian government gives him the green light to adopt an orphan girl.
This will put you in a complicated position: you will have to decide between helping save the planet, or your personal happiness.
This role, starring Halldóra Geirharðsdóttir, earned her the Best Actress award at the Seminci de Valladolid in 2018, was also nominated for the best actress at the European Film Awards 2018 and is definitely one of the female characters of the year .
The director, Benedikt Erlingsson, is one of the most outstanding figures of theater and cinema in his country.
He has received more than twenty international awards for his first feature film, 'De caballos y hombres'.
On 'The woman of the mountain', Benedikt Erlingsson explained that his film "is about democracy, the media, this fight for the environment and the right of people to act even without breaking the rules", is "an independent thriller with a lot of music ".
The soundtrack of the film (by Bergsteinn Björgúlfsson) is the perfect accompaniment to this co-production between Iceland, France and Ukraine, which skims moments of the absurd and the return to the harshest reality.
The film opens the 47th Cartagena International Film Festival and will be screened in the B ROOM of the El Batel Auditorium on Sunday, November 25 at 8:00 p.m.
It will be in the original version with subtitles in Spanish, and tickets can be purchased at € 3 (subscription of 6 films at € 15) at the ticket office of the auditorium, or online: https://www.ficc.es/entradas-ficc47
