More than half of the fifteen unemployed who participated in Cartagena in a course of the SEF on welding with high elastic steel have been immediately incorporated into the company Metalmecánicas Herjimar, after completing one hundred hours of training.
The objective was to train professionals capable of welding with the type of steel used for the construction of the new submarine S81, in which Herjimar participates on behalf of the company Navantia.
Specifically, there are eight students hired for six months and full time by this company, which also leaves the door open for future recruitment of other participants.
All of them have received from the hands of Herjimar officials a certificate that certifies that they have the skills and abilities required by this profession.
During the course, taught through the Training Center for the Industry of Cartagena (Cefic), the students received notions about the welding technology, the concrete aspects of high elasticity steel handling, the imperfections of the welded joints and the quality control of welded constructions.
The course was included in the most attractive training modality of the SEF for students, since it included a commitment to hire at least 40 percent of them.
However, in most cases this proportion of incorporations is exceeded, as has happened on this occasion.
Among the companies that chose this route in past calls are Primark, Mecánicas Bolea, Crown Food or Adecco.
This type of courses provide training adapted to very specific job profiles, which are difficult to find in the market.
In addition, the economic cost of training (11,000 euros in this case) is assumed by the SEF, and companies benefit from the possibility of incorporating workers who, thanks to this training period, are already familiar with the work activity develop later.
Custom training
The director general of SEF, Severa González, stressed that this initiative "provides the company with tailor-made, on-demand training that adapts exactly to the profiles it needs.
As for the participants, the benefit is directly the possibility of joining the company.
We always insist that training is key to employment, but in this case leads directly to it. "
The course with hiring commitment requested by Herjimar is one of the six that the SEF granted at the beginning of the summer, with a total allocation of 143,000 euros.
In addition to this company, Santa Cruz Driving School, Campos Serrano Biologists and Academia Vigilant offer this type of training during the last quarter of the year, in some cases with two courses.
