Cartagena City Council has since Wednesday, November 21, with a Municipal Accessibility Commission that works to ensure that infrastructure, public spaces, transportation and information of Cartagena are accessible to all citizens.
The mayor of Cartagena and president of the commission, Ana Belén Castejón, said that "today is an important day because we set up the Municipal Commission of Accessibility, of which all the entities of the municipality, the political groups, and the two federations, both of older people and of neighbors ".
In addition, Castejón has pointed out that this Commission also has representation the various services of the municipality that are involved and "have something to say in terms of accessibility, to get together a municipality out of all kinds of obstacles."
In this line, he thanked the involvement of the entities and federations that are already working to achieve this common goal: to achieve a municipality accessible to all people.
As well as municipal services "that have understood the importance of continuing to train both to adapt the new works to these premises of accessibility and to reform the old ones and turn them into spaces that everyone can access".
During his speech at this first session of the Commission, the first mayor has pointed out that when considering the city, its functions and its evolution, from the perspective of accessibility, "we are taking into account all the elements or characteristics of the urban environment and all municipal equipment and services, which allow their use independently and in conditions of comfort and safety for all citizens and particularly for those who have some type of disability of a permanent or transitory nature ".
For its part, the mayor of Social Services, Mercedes Garcia, explained the functioning of the working groups that "will be integrated by a representative of the entity, association, political group and related technicians in each of the areas to address."
Access to them is free and will start from the availability of time and means, in what corresponds to the groups and associations, not so for the technical representatives of the different Councils, which will be linked to all working groups.
Finally, the mayor Ana Belen Castejón has encouraged all political groups to continue working "as they have done so far" and thanked "his mood in a subject of such depth."
