This Saturday, November 17, International Student Day was celebrated, a commemoration that was joined by the City of Cartagena with the reading of the Institutional Declaration approved by the Plenary of the Municipal Corporation.
The Student Association of the IES Las Salinas del Mar Menor -ADESAMM-, which represents students from La Manga, Cabo de Palos, Los Belones and surrounding areas, presented in plenary session, on October 24, a motion before all the political groupings of Cartagena with which they claimed improvements for students in the education system and participation at the local level.
The ceremony to celebrate International Student Day began at 11:00 am, in the Reception Room of the Palace of Cartagena, and was attended by the Councilor for Education, Mercedes Garcia, the Councilor for Youth, David Martínez Noguera;
as well as other members of the Municipal Corporation, such as Fernando Sáez Elorrieta, Teodora Guillén, Isabel García, María José Soler, Manuel Padín and Ana Rama.
Representatives of the educational community also attended as parents, mothers, teachers, management teams and students, including Iván García, promoter of the institutional declaration.
The event began with the intervention of the student Iván García, member of ADESAMM (Student Association Secondary Education Institute Las Marinas del Mar Menor of La Manga del Mar Menor).
García, among other demands, conveyed the need for a quality education -that promotes values ​​of democracy, respect and plurality-, a fair representation with which to be able to give voice to the proposals, needs and demands of the students, and a training in participation, as well as to urge the city council to take measures to promote this in a free and effective manner within the classrooms.
Subsequently, Mercedes García proceeded to read the Institutional Declaration.
Through this statement it is intended that the Department of Education continue to promote in schools the free and effective participation of students and informing them of their rights and duties.
