Cs picks up the indignation of the vendors before the PSOE plan to restructure the large markets of Cartagena (17/11/2018)

- "Doing things as they are being done, without dialogue, is the best way to generate conflict and uncertainty to hundreds of Cartagena families who eat the work of this collective," said the spokesman for Citizens in Cartagena, Manuel Padín

- The PSOE intends to change the location of some of Cartagena's main street markets and relocate dozens of posts without listening to the vendors who have proposed alternatives to the foreseeable damage to their business volume, "it will be our ruin", they assured

Citizens has collected the complaints and the deep malaise of the Association of Sellers of Plazas and Markets of Cartagena for the process that has set in motion the PSOE Government to restructure a good number of municipal markets.

The spokesman for Citizens, Manuel Padín, has assured that "the sellers denounce that unilateral decisions are being taken, without attending to their considerations, on the main markets and that these changes seriously harm them".

The President of Plazas y Mercados de Cartagena, Juan Manuel Bautista, explained to the orange spokesman that this restructuring affects the main markets that are installed every week such as Cenit, Bohío, Los Dolores, Mediterranean Urbanization, La Azohía or Barrio Peral, between others.

The orange training recalls that this process initiated by the PSOE was announced in July, at the last Municipal Street Board, and there it was said that one of the objectives was to avoid only the placement of posts in emergency exits, fords and exits from schools.

According to this Association, among other claims, the Government of Cartagena wants to change the location of some of these markets to get away from the population centers and, based on a report signed by the Fire Chief, Francisco Gómez-Ávalos, relocate more than thirty stalls in the Cenit for supposedly preventing the minimum width from being reached in the Ribera de San Javier street and in the parallel pedestrian walkway.

Street vendors argue that there are feasible solutions for emergency vehicles to access without having to remove these locations.

The Association understands that this plan of restructuring of the Executive will cause serious economic losses that they will not be able to support, "it will be our ruin," said the vendors in a meeting with the orange spokesman where they announced that they plan to convene a meeting soon to counter the plans of the local government.

The City Council also intends, according to the president of the Association, to take the market of the Mediterranean Urbanization from the population center and move it to a space near the cemetery of San Antonio Abad due to level four of antiterrorist alert.

Sellers can not find an explanation for this decision because they remember that this level of alert has been in effect for three years now, and they propose that the streets leading to the market space be cut to keep it in its current location.

As for the Bohío, they affirm that they also want to change the location, but the proposal of the City Council is a land from which the ownership is unknown.

After listening to the vendors, the spokesman for Citizens in Cartagena said he was "amazed that this local government has undertaken such a radical and dramatic transformation of the conditions in which our street vendors work without them, and with ideas that some cases seem capricious, and in others, eminently little worked and reckless. "

"Doing things as they are being done, without dialogue, is the best way to generate conflict and uncertainty for hundreds of Cartagena families who eat from these markets."

Manuel Padín is committed to salespeople to talk with the responsible councilor, Juan Pedro Torralba and the Fire Chief to try to "clarify what is happening and open channels of dialogue between industry associations and the Government to find points of meeting and agreements. "

For all the above, Citizens will urgently request a Municipal Board of Mobile Sales so that all "put the cards on the table, and can be harmonized the mandatory compliance with the rules and emergency and evacuation plans and the interest of our vendors "
