Cartagena participates in the XV Working Meeting of Intercultural Cities Network (RECI) - in Logroño (16/11/2018)

Technicians from the Department of Social Services attended the XV working meeting of the member cities of the Network of Intercultural Cities (RECI) that has been held in Logroño and also the Second Meeting of Anti-Rumor Cities held on November 13 and 14, 2018 .

To this meeting, which is a joint action of the Council of Europe and the European Commission, supported by the Social Work of the La Caixa Foundation, was attended by the president of the RECI, Jaume Lanaspa, and the director and coordinator from the RECI, Daniel de Torres and Gemma Pinyol, experts from the Intercultural Cities - Council of Europe.

And they have also attended technical and institutional representatives of the 20 territories that make up the RECI (Barcelona, ​​Bilbao, Cartagena, Castellón de la Plana, Donostia, Fuenlabrada, Getafe, Getxo, Granada, Jerez, Logroño, Madrid, Malaga, Parla, Sabadell, Santa Coloma de Gramanet, Salt, Tenerife, Tortosa and Zaragoza).

Valencia has been the guest city for the first time, as well as other representatives of cities in the Kaleidos Network.

During the fifteenth working day of the RECI, they have addressed, among other aspects, diversity and coexistence in the municipalities.

In the same way, the work agenda of the ICC-RECI 2018-2019 NETWORK has been finalized.

In addition, aspects and proposals of municipal diversity management have been discussed and, in particular, the relationship with State policies to mark future objectives has been addressed.

During the meeting, we worked together with representatives of the cities of the Kaleidos network, some reflections and proposals regarding citizen participation in the context of intercultural cities.

An important aspect that among other issues have been shared and exchanged have been the diverse experiences and methodology of intercultural work that serve cities to manage the challenges and opportunities offered by diversity ", in this key the second" Challenge "is going to be carried out. Within this working day of the Cities Anti-rumors has been presented the "Manual Anti-rumors", publication of the Council of Europe whose author is the director of the RECI, Daniel de Torres.

In this presentation have participated technical references that have exposed experiences of various Spanish and European cities.

The anti-rumor strategy has been addressed from a global view of its evolution and main challenges.

Likewise, the implementation of the various Anti-Mood Networks has been reviewed, in which Cartagena has exposed the advances that are being made in this area in municipal management and specifically the development of anti-rumor strategy in education, in which is helping to strengthen tools and instruments that allow young people to build, use and manage actions to improve coexistence and participation in the municipality, through awareness campaigns and design of other proposals that have an impact at the municipal level, stressing the need to work with the necessary economic and technical support in the municipalities, in order to promote meetings for the development of this strategy and the implementation of training actions in local administrations on the Anti-Mood Strategy.

The Network of Intercultural Cities (RECI-ICC) and the Council of Europe

The RECI depends on the European Intercultural Citie Network (ICC) and the Council of Europe and has the collaboration of the Obra Social La Caixa Foundation.

Cartagena belongs to this network of cities since its inception in 2011.

The Intercultural Cities Network (RECI) is a group of cities from different parts of Spain that are committed to promoting diversity management policies based on interculturality.

It provides a series of instruments and actions that want to facilitate its administration: to be able to manage and exploit the potential of the variety of cultures, stimulating creativity and innovation, as a key to generating economic prosperity, social cohesion and a better quality of life. life, understanding the heterogeneous society not only as a value but as a useful resource for the local development of a city.

Diversity as a value

Likewise, the Intercultural Cities project created by the Council of Europe in 2008 in a joint initiative with the European Commission, is based on the conviction that one of the great challenges of Europe is and will be the management of the growing diversity cultural in the continent.

The project aims to offer cities instruments to manage cultural plurality as a resource of dynamism and social and economic development, by stimulating creativity and innovation, with the ultimate goal of making diversity a source of prosperity economic, social cohesion and quality of life for all citizens.

The RECI was created in 2011, promoted by the Council of Europe, and is included in the European Intercultural Cities program ("Intercultural Cities").

It has the support of the "La Caixa" Foundation and the collaboration of the Interdisciplinary Research Group on Migrations, of the Pompleu Fabra University.

Cartagena belongs to this network of cities since its inception in 2011.
