The classical music contest Between Strings and Metals, organized by the Department of Youth and the Conservatory of Music of Cartagena, returns once again to the municipality in its XXII edition, and will pay tribute to the German pianist and composer, Clara Schumann, in the bicentennial of his birth.
The presentation, which took place this Thursday, November 15, has been carried out by the Councilor for Youth, David Martínez Noguera;
who has been accompanied by the Chief of Academic Extension of the Conservatory of Music of Cartagena, Celia Amaro;
and the representative of the Chamber Orchestra of Cartagena, Pedro Martínez.
Martínez explained that Entre Cuerdas y Metales was born in 1997 to promote the musical practice of young people and performers in the Region of Murcia, as well as to value and reward the effort required by their training.
The Councilor for Youth has indicated that since the beginning of this contest, had a great reception by the students of all conservatories, music schools and private music centers in the Region of Murcia, reaching 175 young people enrolled in the last edition, in which interpreters from Music Conservatories of Cartagena, Murcia, Lorca, Molina de Segura, Caravaca, San Javier, Cieza, Jumilla and Chaplin School of Music participated.
Celia Amaro has pointed out that this is the only contest of interpreters at the regional level, where most of the orchestra's instruments and specialties that are taught in the conservatories have a place: piano;
rope;
wind wood;
metal wind;
percussion;
sing flamenco;
flamenco guitar;
singing and chamber music.
This year establishes, as in previous editions, in each of the modalities two phases: one eliminatory and one final, where the contestants will interpret the works that will be freely chosen in any case.
The economic amount of the prizes amounts in this edition to 15,350 euros.
All the modalities will have a first prize of 900 euros, a second of 400 euros and a third of 150 euros;
except for Chamber Music, which will have a first prize of 1,500 euros, a second prize of 700 euros, and a third prize of 300 euros;
and flamenco singing and flamenco guitar, which will have a unique prize worth 900 euros.
Likewise, a special "Ciudad de Cartagena" prize, valued at € 100 and a diploma, awarded to the best participant born or resident in Cartagena who reached the final in his specialty without receiving any prize has been established in all the Individual Modalities.
On the other hand, as in previous editions, the possibility of giving special mention to the youngest students who have not won a prize, but who due to their interpretative quality deserve to receive this recognition, will be considered.
The deadline for submission of entries to participate in the contest begins on November 16 and ends on December 14, 2018. Registration will be delivered to the Department of Youth, Conservatory of Music of Cartagena or certified mail.
PRESENTATION "PROMOTIONAL CONCERT CYCLE"
On the other hand, the traditional Promotional Concert Cycle was presented with the winners of the last edition of the contest accompanied by the Chamber Orchestra of Cartagena, which the councilor has considered as "an unbeatable educational opportunity within his musical career and in his process of artistic and future professional maturation ".
The concerts will take place on Monday, November 26, at 6:40 pm;
on Tuesday, November 27, at 7:30 p.m.
and on Wednesday, November 28, at 7:15 p.m., in the Auditorium of the Music Conservatory of Murcia, the Auditorium of the Master Gómez Conservatory Villa de Cieza;
and the Auditorium of the Conservatory of Music of Cartagena, respectively.
After the presentation, the young singer Olivia Figueras, who has won the Entre Cuerdas y Metals contest several times, has interpreted the Nocturne Opus 6, No. 2, by the honorable Clara Schumann.
The entrance to the promotional concerts, auditions of the contest and the closing concert will be free until the capacity is reached.
