City Council and Repsol bring scientific advances to young people in the Week of Science and Energy (15/11/2018)

The Week of Science and Energy of Repsol returns to Cartagena with the aim of bringing science and energy in an entertaining and attractive way to children through workshops, exhibitions and shows, with a full program of outreach activities This will take place from November 19 to 23, at the El Batel Auditorium.

The mayor of Cartagena, Ana Belén Castejón;

the vice president of the Repsol Foundation, Ignacio Egea;

and the Director of the Repsol refinery in Cartagena, Joaquín García, have detailed, this Thursday, November 15, all the programming and have reported the developments that have been included in this edition.

An act that has also gone to the mayor of Education, Mercedes García.

Castejón has said that the activities planned for this week have to do with science, but also with the production of sustainable energy, "thus constituting a unique scenario to bring it closer to the youngest, encouraging the interest of students in this field who are called to carry out the ecological transition ".

The novelties of this edition, lie in the extension of the schedules and the target audience to which the activities are directed.

On this occasion, a series of workshops, exhibitions and activities have been scheduled in the afternoon for adults to participate in the Science Week.

As indicated by the director of the Repsol refinery in Cartagena, Joaquín García, these activities dedicated to adults include the exhibition 'Nobel Women';

the talk 'Investigator-a of the value of the A', which will be taught by Dr. Ingeniera Celia Martínez Mora;

the Film, Science and Energy Cycle that is organized in collaboration with the Cartagena Film Festival and that will take to the screens of the CAM Cultural Classroom the films 'Viaje Alucinante' and 'Regreso al Futuro'.

This program is completed with the guided tour 'La Arqueoastronomía en Carthago Nova', which will take place in the Barrio del Foro Romano and the grand finale of the 'Energy Mix Race' championship, with which the university students can learn by playing how energy can be managed to meet the needs of the present, but also of the future.

For its part, the Vice President of the Repsol Foundation, Ignacio Egea, has given an account of the new features that make up the program dedicated to schoolchildren, such as the 'Tinkering' workshops, which are based on a movement initiated in San Francisco, which encourages manipulation, experiment and creation in a playful and collaborative environment so that young people can solve different challenges about the future of energy.

To close this week of activities, on Friday, November 23, the scientific shows 'Ciencia a lo Grande' and 'Misión Cosmos' will take place, two shows aimed at children and young people respectively.

Finally, the mayor of Cartagena recalled in the previous edition of this program more than 4,328 students participated, so this year is expected an even greater influx.
