Cartagena has obtained the Seal of Recognition as 'Child Friendly City' (CAI), following the decision of the VIII Edition of the Spanish Committee, for this reason this Thursday, November 15, the City Council has convened all the entities involved to thank them for their work and effort to get this award.
A city recognized with this Seal is one in which the voices, needs, priorities and rights of children are an integral part of policies, programs and public decisions.
The recognition will be collected by the Councilor for Social Services, Mercedes García, in a ceremony to be held on November 27 in Oviedo.
To communicate what the UNICEF Committee has valued in Cartagena, the mayor of Cartagena, Ana Belén Castejón;
the president of UNICEF in the Region of Murcia, Amparo Marzal and the councilor for Social Services and Education, Mercedes García.
The mayor has highlighted the work done, the commitment and involvement of the different councils of the City, as well as all political groups that make up the Municipal Corporation, in addition to local actors have made possible the achievement of this recognition.
According to the mayor explained, this recognition is the beginning of a process of continuous improvement to develop jointly with all social actors policies and local initiatives, which will serve to promote the real application on children's rights, of November 20, 1989. The City Council's commitment is to continue contributing to the improvement of the living conditions of children and adolescents and to implement all the municipal policies necessary to achieve this goal.
For its part, the president of UNICEF in the Region of Murcia, Amparo Marzal, stressed that the approximately 50,000 children of the municipality of Cartagena live in a city that has childhood among its priorities, which works as a team in coordination "this is only a point of departure, but it is a commitment of the City of Cartagena with the rights of children. "

DAY FOR THE RIGHTS OF CHILDREN
Precisely, the activities scheduled for November 20, collect that model of joint work of councils, -the Social Services and Education, as well as the diversity of activities that take place in Cartagena thinking of children and adolescents.
The day of the Day for the Rights of Children will begin with a march through the streets of the Old Town, in which 1,700 students will participate, from 18 schools in the municipality.
The march will end its tour in the Plaza de San Francisco where various activities for boys and girls are scheduled.
