The City of Cartagena considers inadmissible that the surgical waiting lists continue to grow (13/11/2018)

The City of Cartagena considers inadmissible the increase that the waiting lists for surgical interventions in Area 2 of Health are experiencing, while they decrease in the rest of the Region.

"The Health Minister himself has acknowledged that the waiting lists for surgical interventions in Health Area 2 not only have not been reduced in recent years but have increased.

We find it incomprehensible that, while in the rest of the areas of the Region it has diminished or is maintained, in Cartagena they do not stop growing ", has indicated the mayor of Health, Carmen Martín del Amor.

The councilor recalled that the mayor herself told the counselor the situation at the last meeting held two months ago.

"The mayor already explained during that meeting that the situation was unsustainable and now we see how instead of improving it has worsened.

It is intolerable that the Ministry of Health maintain the hospital of Rosell as if it were a mere ambulatory while requiring users of area 2 to wait an average of 121 days, which in cases such as angiology or vascular surgery exceeds 256 days, to be operated, "he said.

In fact, the wait for an intervention in trauma is 87.02 days on average in the rest of the Region, while in Cartagena it is 110.14 days;

in urology, Murcia expects 61.26 days, while users of area 2 have to wait for 93.78 days;

in gynecology it is even more bloody, since the regional average waiting is 78.09 days, while in Cartagena it rises to 107.12 days.

Regarding the diagnostic tests, electromyogram and colonoscopy are those that accumulate average waiting time with more than 70 and 80 days respectively, far exceeding the 47 and 37 days of area 1.

From the City of Cartagena explain that the fact that the Rosell remain at 16% of its total capacity is closely related to the progressive increase of waiting lists.

"It is clear that they do not care about the breach of the Law approved in the Regional Assembly, but it seems that they are not worried about patients in the area of Health of Cartagena," said the councilor.
