The remodeling of six of the main streets of the old town begins this week.
Specifically, it deals with streets Beatas, Villalba Corta, Lizana Corta, San Cristóbal Corta, Ciprés, Don Roque and Plaza de Roldán, which in the coming months will become a semi-pedestrian zone and will renew both the lighting and the sanitation and supply network of water.
The works, which have a deadline of three months and have a total budget of 257,608.87 euros, "have been very demanded by residents of the old town of Cartagena that had been abandoned for more than 12 years," said the mayor of Municipal Services, Juan Pedro Torralba, who recalled that "the canalisations and the sanitation network are in very bad condition and are not large enough to channel the water when it rains".
The actions to be carried out in this area are:
Renovation of the sanitation and supply network.
Replacement of the lighting network in Las Beatas street.
Burying of voltage and telephony networks.
Reordering traffic on Beatas and adjacent streets.
Demolition of existing sidewalks.
Renovation of the pavement, both on the road and on the sidewalks with polished asphalt.
Reorganization of the Rondán square with the installation of flower boxes and benches.
Flushing of the registration caps.
Replacement of horizontal signage.
In the project, the installation of 6-meter-high luminaires with a 1.5-meter arm, staggered every 12 meters on Calle Beatas and on Plaza Roldan, with 37 W LED lights, model Albany or similar, is planned.
In the streets with mixed traffic, the installation of bollards to protect pedestrians from road traffic has been planned, and in Beatas Street, where pedestrian traffic is the priority, this type of bollards has been arranged in the same way.
In Roldan Square, a series of 1.4-meter-high steel pots with a diameter of 1.45 meters will be installed, as well as the installation of benches and bins.
