On Saturday, November 10, the feast of the ancient patron saint of Cartagena, the Virgen del Rosell, was held, which is why the City of Cartagena performed its traditional votive function to the Four Saints during a solemn mass celebrated in the Church of Santa María de Gracia.
The religious ceremony was presided over by the vicar general of the diocese, Juan Tudela.
In it, the councilor of the Government Team, Carmen Martín, renewed the perpetual vow to the Four Saints by the Cartagena Consistory.
Other councilors of the Municipal Corporation also attended the mass.
The tradition of this vow goes back to the night of November 24, 1694, the day of Santa Catalina, when a storm hit the city and was about to devastate it.
Miraculously, this was not the case and his salvation was attributed to the prayers that the people of Cartagena addressed to the Four Saints and the Virgin of Rosell.
The Corporation decided to perform every year an act of gratitude to the Four Saints and the Virgin of Rosell, which has been celebrated since then, first in the old Cathedral and later in Santa Maria de Gracia.
This offering has been repeated uninterruptedly since then, and since a few years ago is being framed in the celebration of the Virgen del Rosell.
Precisely, after the Eucharist there was an act of exaltation to the old patron saint of the city, by the poet and sacristan of Santa María de Gracia, Antonio Navarro.
