Accompanied by the mayor, Ana Belén Castejón, and by the government delegate, Diego Conesa, the Minister of Health, Consumption and Welfare, María Luisa Carcedo, held Friday a meeting at the Palace Hall with representatives of the main social entities of the municipality, taking advantage of its visit to the Region.
In this forum, he was able to exchange views with the person in charge of the Anti-Poverty and Social Exclusion Network of the Region of Murcia (EAPN-RM), Diego Cruzado, and the Vice-President of Plena Inclusión (CERMI), Santiago López.
To the words of the mayor highlighting the "great progress of the city in the development of social policies, we are a benchmark at the national level," added Carcedo, who has pointed out the importance in this regard of the work of the Autonomous Communities and, above all, the Town Councils, as the closest administration.
For Ana Belén Castejón, we must highlight "the strength of the associative fabric of Cartagena, which allows us to work in a coordinated and very active way".
Regarding the work that is being done from the government of the nation, the minister has emphasized the "fight against child poverty, is our priority, and we also work to make effective the rights of people with disabilities, highlighting the processing of the law for the vote of people with mental disabilities ".
In addition, Maria Luisa Carcedo has announced that "in the next budgets we want to incorporate items for the 270,000 dependents who, at present, are in a kind of limbo, without receiving social benefits, as well as their family environment" .
The Minister of Health also recalled in her statements that "social policies are the investment to make a country more profitable", and as an example of dependency, "for every euro invested in dependency, 34 jobs are created".
For his part, Castejón took advantage of the presence of the minister to remember that "in Cartagena the Law of Rosell is still not fulfilled, for which the hospital should be open one hundred percent, something that depends on the Autonomous Community since it is the exclusive competence his".
In the course of her visit to the Consistory, Maria Luisa Carcedo has had the opportunity to chat with a group of students from the Primitiva López school and sign in the City's Golden Book.
