For the City of Cartagena, citizen participation is a fundamental part of the democratic system that promotes the construction of an active society that will help to promote any aspect of social, economic, cultural or political life.
For this reason, a Commission for Monitoring Participatory Budgets has been held, in which the Councilor for Public Services and Citizen Participation, Juan Pedro Torralba, has been accountable for the fulfillment of the first two campaigns and has explained the novelties of the next 2019 edition.
Among these Torralba has highlighted the intention of the government team to increase the amount to reach 2.5 million euros, as well as increase the number of schools participating in previous editions so that students in a school or institute by district can Decide what is done in their areas.
"We are going to try, if the global budget allows us, to reach 2.5 million euros this year and we will take into account the opinion of the youngest.
For us, education is essential so that all citizens can decide what they want for their neighborhoods and towns.
These Participatory Budgets are a tool for the neighbors of Cartagena to decide freely and directly on what to use a part of the municipality's budget, "said the councilor.
In this way, a center will be selected by district plus the two centers that participated the previous year in the pilot experience, which will serve as a guide to the rest of the educational centers.
Each educational center will have 10,000 euros to carry out the Participatory Budgets in its teaching center.
The students will have from this Friday 9th until November 21st to present their proposals.
