'The caciques', the well-known work of Carlos Arniches, is the last assembly of the Murcian company Alquibla Teatro, which on Wednesday, November 7, will go up to the tables of the Nuevo Teatro Circo de Cartagena, programmed by the City Council's Culture Department. Cartagena

The piece, a grotesque tragicomedy about corruption in Spain, features a version of the professor and stage director César Oliva.

and Manuel de Reyes in Don Régulo, star in this "funny and critical story, a mixture of tradition and innovation", point from the company.

Although Arniches wrote the play in 1920 - it was premiered in Madrid that same year - the proposal of Alquibla Teatro is set in 1932, during the Manuel Azaña government.

The action takes place in a small town called Villalgancio, where two individuals arrive in order to rehabilitate a lost love.

There they find that the authorities live on corruption and bribery.

At the same time, they continue, the leaders expect alarmed the visit of a government delegate who must inspect the accounts of the municipality.

By chance, it crosses the presence of those who came for skirts with those who think they are government envoys.

This causes all kinds of confusion that will leave the behavior of some and others in their place.

The version of César Oliva has introduced some elements of 'The Inspector General of Nikolai Gogol', the work that inspired Arniches. Directed by Antonio Saura, the montage offers a delicate balance between the traditional and contemporary;

the rapture and the subtlety;

the interpretative passion and the ethical commitment;

the fun and a ritual of confrontation of ideas, emotions and sensations that moves it away from the mere theater of evasion.

'Los caciques' is a production by Alquibla Teatro and Teatro Romea de Murcia, with the collaboration of the Municipal Auditorium Miguel Ángel Clares de Algezares, as well as the Institute of Cultural Industries and Arts of the Region (ICA), through Plan Scene.

The show is also subsidized by the National Institute of Performing Arts and Music (Inaem) of the Ministry of Culture.
