Equality is committed to changing gender stereotypes from the field of Education (25/10/2018)

The Department of Equality has launched, once again, its Educational Program for the Promotion of Equality, Prevention and Sensitization against Gender Violence for the 2018/2019 academic year, by which the students of Cartagena Infant, Primary, Secondary and Baccalaureate may attend activities and workshops that promote changes in gender relations.

The presentation of the new program has been carried out by the Councilor for Equality, David Martínez Noguera, who has been accompanied by the coordinator of the area of ​​Equality, María José Mercader.

The councilor has announced that in the area of ​​Early Childhood Education Equuales has been organized, which aims to contribute to the promotion of an equal reading and that children are represented in the stories as equals.

Likewise, the Non-Sexist and Non-Violent Toys and Games workshop has been programmed for the Primary cycle, with the intention of contributing to non-sexist education in childhood, promoting games and toys that trigger egalitarian and non-violent behavior.

In addition, associated with this workshop and facing the coming Christmas, the campaign For a Non-Sexist Toy will be launched, which is the result of the analysis of sexist behavior in the elections that adults, boys and girls make regarding games and toys.

The goal of the Department of Equality with this campaign is to promote egalitarian behavior and stop promoting stereotypes through games.

On the other hand, young people in the municipality will have the opportunity to attend the workshop Equality in the Home: Stewardship, where they will reflect on the meaning of co-responsibility of domestic tasks among family members, "breaking stereotypes based on gender inequalities, analyzing the importance of time management and developing a shared responsibility and respect for a fair and equal coexistence ".

As a novelty for this course, the workshop The Witches has been created: the forerunners of the Scientific Women, which will value the role of the so-called witches as the first women of science.

The students will be able to understand, thanks to this workshop, what scientific women have contributed to humanity, increasing the girls' confidence in themselves.

María José Mercader has indicated, with respect to this activity, that from the Department of Equality enter this course in the field of education with specialized material to give visibility to women scientists and demonstrate that great inventions have come to us from the hand of they, like for example the Monopoly, the windscreen wipers, the syringes or the WIFI, among others.

On the other hand, in Secondary Education and Baccalaureate, the Equality Agency offers workshops that revolve around two axes: Education in Equality Values ​​and Prevention of Gender Violence "If you feel drowned is not love."

The programmed workshops are: "Emotionally Intelligent Youth", "Sexuality: we are divers @ s", "Millenials for Equality", "The Equal Man" and "Healthy Love: Deconstructing Romantic Love".

Adding in this purpose, and after the activities scheduled in the Fair of Associations, Equality has convened a "Quedada de Brujas", a protest action that will take place on October 31 at 7:00 p.m. at the Plaza San Sebastián , taking into account that witch means woman of power.

With the programs already underway, the City of Cartagena, through the Department of Equality offers all schools the possibility of requesting, through the Equality Agency, these actions for Early Childhood Education and Primary, Secondary and Baccalaureate.

These activities will take place during school hours and at the facilities of the Educational Center, and cover various topics related to Gender Equality and the Prevention of Violence, always adapting the interventions to the age and profile of the participating groups.

Last year the Educational Programs of the Department of Equality reached more than 40 schools, and almost 7,000 students from Cartagena.
