The Interuniversity Chair of the Environment Port Authority of Cartagena-Campus Mare Nostrum has published the call for research contracts 2018 addressed to researchers from the Polytechnic University of Cartagena and the University of Murcia, in collaboration with other universities, foundations, companies and others public and private institutions that can contribute to the development of knowledge in matters related to the environment in the vicinity of the Port of Cartagena.
This call contemplates the awarding of three research contracts, in which the responsible researchers must be doctors belonging to one of the two public universities of the Region.
Priority research proposals will be considered those that, being of interest from the environmental point of view for the port area of ​​Cartagena, are related to the following topics: Natura 2000 Network, Underwater Noise, Marine Pollution, Waste Management, Contaminated Soils, Biodiversity and responsible management of species and habitats.
Each research team may submit only one proposal, the amount of which does not exceed 15,000 euros.
A proposal of a higher amount may be submitted, provided funding is provided for the remaining amount to be assumed by the University, public or private institution.
The deadline for submission of proposals will end at 2:00 pm on November 20.
This year, the Department of the Environment has funded a project of the UPCT, led by Antonio Guerrero, which seeks to measure impulse noises in the bay of Cartagena that occur episodically during work in the Port, to learn how they affect the Marine species.
It has been carried out in collaboration with the Naval Technological Center, an expert in submarine noise.
The UPCT Submarine Vehicle Laboratory has used its underwater equipment to place sensors on the seabed.
