The Department of Equality has presented the first campaign to promote the involvement of men in gender equality.
The purpose of this action is to increase the participation of men in the activities carried out in Cartagena for the commemoration of the International Day for the Eradication of Violence against Women, on November 25.
This was explained on Thursday October 18, the mayor David Martinez, and the coordinator of the Department of Equality, María José Mercader.
Under the slogan based on the phrase "Only by freeing ourselves from the cage of virility will we make real equality possible between women and men", extracted from the book 'The man we Should not be: The masculine revolution that so many women have been waiting for for centuries' Octavio Salazar, the Department has presented this campaign that has as central axis a poster designed by the illustrator Leandro Lamas in which you can read this phrase and it will be located in different parts of Cartagena.
Martinez has indicated that this book and its author are "an essential and essential part in the creation of this campaign."
To which he added that Octavio Salazar with his reflections "invites men to place themselves in front of the mirror to reflect on what they should be and to meditate on a new itinerary to follow".
Therefore, during the development of this campaign will be placed in the center of the city ten adhesives - 2mx2m- that collect the "10 keys to the male revolution: The man to come", also taken from the work of Salazar, as has indicated Martinez.
On the other hand, the mayor of Equality has emphasized that the date to carry out this campaign has not been chosen at random.
It was on October 21, 2006, after the appeal of the Nobel Prize winner José Saramago, when the Forum of Men for Equality convened the first manifestation of men against male violence that roamed the streets of Seville.
"From the City of Cartagena we join all actions that have the objective of being able to help lay the foundations of a new society that is gestating," said Martínez.
For its part, Mercader has reported another activity that will take place in the municipality on the occasion of this campaign: a dialogue with Paco Herrero, which will take place on Friday, October 26, at 7:30 pm, at the Soldadito de Plomo , whose motive of debate will be the theme 'Equal men, opportunity or threat to the community of care?'.
As highlighted by the mayor of Equality, in recent years there has been an increase in the movements of Men for Equality, but there are still social sectors that question allegations of male violence, resisting to see the privileges and structural causes that they produce them, and thus they question equality.
For that reason, she has indicated that "we continue to need a greater movement of feminist men, who are not afraid of that word and who, as Saramago proposed, denounce that Machismo is Violence."
