The SMS plans to provide all health centers in the Region with devices to expedite the diagnosis and treatment of their users within three years.
The Ministry of Health has installed in the health center of San Antón de Cartagena one of the first ultrasound machines with which it is going to equip the primary network of the Region.
Three are the new diagnostic devices that have already been installed in the health centers of San Antón de Cartagena, Professor Jesús Marín de Molina de Segura and La Flota-Murcia and that will save patient movements to their reference hospital centers.
The Minister of Health, Manuel Villegas, today presented this initiative in the health center of San Antón de Cartagena and visited the works of the second phase of the new center, which began in February 2018, with an investment of 2.8 million of euros, an execution period of 14 months, and which is expected to end at the end of April.
The first phase of the construction was carried out in an area of ​​518 square meters, which are distributed in a plant that houses pediatric consultations, the administrative area and support services.
The second phase completes the endowment of the health center, which will have 13 general and 12 nursing consultations, physiotherapy service, extractions, treatment and special techniques rooms (with one for each use), service area the woman with multipurpose room, staff area and teaching classroom.
The building will have a total constructed area of ​​4,659 meters.
The health center of San Antón serves a population of more than 25,000 people living in San Antón, Urbanización Mediterráneo, Nueva Cartagena and Media Sala.
Clinical ultrasound in primary
The Minister of Health said that the installation of ultrasound "is the first step in the development of clinical ultrasound in primary care centers, a project of the Murcia Health Service to provide all health centers in the Region with devices for streamline the diagnosis and treatment of its users. "
Villegas added, finally, that the ultrasound performed in primary care is conceived as another aid "for the best management of health problems that the patient consults the family doctor, increasing the resolutive capacity of the family doctor and optimizing referrals to the second level of care ".
Thus, the patient can leave the consultation of his family doctor with a diagnosis and treatment or, if necessary, a referral to the specialist, and will not have to go to the hospital radiology service or specialty center to undergo the test. and having to return to the health center for your doctor to value.
It is the intention of the Ministry of Health that all health centers have an ultrasound in the next three years.
For this purpose, a public tender for the purchase of an ultrasound device for each health center will be tendered, with an approximate amount of two million euros.
At present, there are twelve specialists in family and community medicine from the three health centers who have received specific training for its use to learn how to use them and interpret the results.
Subsequently, these physicians will promote the training of other professionals in primary schools.
At the regional level, the family doctor and pediatricians may use the ultrasound machine in cases such as respiratory infections, neck or gynecological problems.
