On September 19, the coordinator of VOX Cartagena, Luis Armada, and part of his team met with the Association of Businessmen of Hospitality and Tourist Accommodation of Cartagena and its District, HOSTECAR, to exchange points of view, to know the issues that most They worry the members of this group and send us their demands and proposals.
According to what they told us, HOSTECAR does not receive any kind of subsidies or public aid, all the proceeds coming from the quotas of its members and from the advisory services they provide.
In VOX Cartagena we consider that this fact is very meritorious in a society that is increasingly interested in subsidies.
Among the main concerns is the fact that not a few establishments carry out illegal sale of alcoholic beverages during business hours, even to minors.
Therefore they ask that an efficient regulation that prevents illegal sale be approved, and that the law be rigorously enforced.
On the other hand, HOSTECAR considers that the procedures with the City of Cartagena entail excessive bureaucracy that makes many companies decide to establish themselves in other municipalities or nearby autonomous communities, so it should try to streamline and simplify the requirements to open any type of business and hospitality in particular.
They also consider that the La Manga area is quite unattended at an administrative and infrastructure level because, except in the summer and on vacation, it has little population and activity.
Regarding the promotion of tourism, and despite the fact that in 2017 the Carthaginian and Roman festivals were declared of international tourist interest, HOSTECAR considers that until now nothing is being done from the institutions to make them known outside of our city.
As a request to the City Council, HOSTECAR also requests that the rate of water for industrial use and not for domestic use be applied to all catering establishments, which is how they are being charged so far.
It must be borne in mind that the rate of domestic use goes by blocks, and it is normal for a catering establishment to be paying almost all the water at the most expensive price, which is 64% higher than that applied to other types of water. industry.
Finally, HOSTECAR proposes the creation of a 10-year Tourism Master Plan that does not depend on the party that governs the City Council, with the intention of enjoying a stability that allows investment decisions to be made in the region of Cartagena.
In VOX Cartagena, we consider these concerns and proposals very reasonable and we hope that the Cartagena people will soon give us their confidence to be able to defend them from the institutions.
