The Fiestas de la Barriada Hispanoamerica started on Friday, October 5, with the proclamation of the Mayor of Cartagena, Ana Belén Castejón, in which she encouraged young people to become more involved in social life.
The festive events will continue until the 14th of this month with various activities such as: festivals, children's activities, magic, musical performances, exhibitions, crumb contests and a solidarity walk of four kilometers, among others.
Castejón, in his proclamation, praised the desire to overcome the Barriada, demonstrated by the acts organized "as the 1st Solidarity March, for the benefit of Caritas Mary Help of Christians Parish," which last year, in its first edition, brought together to more than three hundred people.
An initiative that has the support of the City Council.
In addition, the mayor encouraged young people to become more involved in the social life of the neighborhood, "I miss that youth movement so necessary in our society."
The councilor invited the children to take a step forward "and work hand in hand with those who currently run this neighborhood."
In her speech, the council also made a brief review of the history of the neighborhood, its links with Los Dolores, "whose neighborhood association you segregasteis more than thirty years ago."
The opening evening also included a tribute to the municipal photographer, José Albaladejo, who consisted in the delivery of a commemorative plaque to Francisco Albaladejo, father of the recently deceased photographer.
He also proceeded to the coronation of the court of honor with his mises.
