The Polytechnic University of Cartagena, which celebrates its twentieth anniversary this year, has co-organized this meeting that has brought together 170 participants from 46 universities of Crue Spanish Universities, as well as members of other entities, and government representatives at both national and regional levels. local.

The activity was distributed, between common and specific sessions, among the nine groups that make up the sectoral commission: Participation and Volunteering;

Gender Policies, Prevention of Occupational Risks;

University Sustainability Assessment;

Environmental Improvements in University Buildings;

Curriculum Sustainability;

University and Sustainable Mobility;

Healthy Universities;

University Urban Planning and Sustainability.

The achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) is a priority for CRUE Crue Universidades Españolas, as evidenced by the creation of a Mixed Commission for the 2030 Agenda at the beginning of 2018, which facilitates the coordination and exchange of initiatives and actions among the different Sectoral Commissions regarding sustainable development.

This new line of intersectoral cooperation has also allowed us to establish an effective dialogue between Crue Universidades Españolas and the High Level Group for the 2030 Agenda of the Spanish Government.

CRUE CrueSustainability understands that in our country a significant step has been taken with the creation of the Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the two High Commissioners, dependent on the President of the Government, to promote the 2030 Agenda and combat child poverty.

In this sense, the inaugural address was delivered by Federico Buyolo García, Director of the Office of the High Commissioner of the Government of Spain for the 2030 Agenda, who highlighted that universities are a key lever in the transformations that this new " global social contract "requires.

UniversidadUniversidad, given its nature linked to the generation, transfer and dissemination of knowledge at the service of society, welfare and sustainability, has the capacity to make a critical and constructive contribution to sustainable development through such knowledge.

That is why the Action Plan for the 2030 Agenda gives the whole university community a responsibility that goes beyond SDG No. 4 (guarantee an inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all), encompassing the 17 objectives.

The Sectoral Commission believes that, given this role, all university students, and society in general, we must be committed to recent public demonstrations from CRUErue Spanish Universities claim the validity of our institutions and the need for a new law of universities that allow the full development of the university activity, conparamometershomologares at the international level, and university autonomy.

We hope that the new Ministry that unites Science, Innovation and Universities, is capable of reversing the almost one-year-old lack of attention to the university system.

The synergies between the High Commissioner of the Government of Spain for the 2030 Agenda and CRUE Spanish Universities can contribute favorably to this.

As a result of the intense activity of the Sectorial Sustainability and its working groups, important initiatives have been carried out, among which the following stand out:

Launch of a new call for universities to carry out the self-assessment of sustainability and publish the new report with 2018 data

Creation of the course "The university before climate change" in collaboration with the Ministry for the Ecological Transition, through the Spanish Office of Climate Change, which will begin on November 6

Video contest on sustainable mobility, aimed at all university groups.

Success of the day of the Healthy Universities, celebrated yesterday, and that included the II challenge of the fruit and the challenge 5000 donations of blood

Adhesion to the European Health and Safety Campaign

Progress in joint measures on the reduction of energy and water consumption, in addition to campaigns for the elimination and recycling of plastics and packaging.

Likewise, CRUErue sSostenibilidad vindicates:

The application of university protocols to prevent sexual harassment and for reasons of sex.

The integration of urbanism in the new law of the universities, to improve the management capacity over the university urban space.

Among other relevant contributions arising from the Crue-Sustainability meeting, in the area of gender, the approval of the "Regulation of the Gender Policy Group of CRUE-Sustainability", the "Letter of support for the continuity of gender studies in university higher education in Hungary "and the" Legal report on indirect discrimination against women in the accreditation of teaching and research staff "in order to guarantee the rights derived from maternity.

In the plenary session of the sectoral commission, a vacancy was also carried out by the Executive Committee, to which four candidatures were submitted.

These days are a continuation of those held at the University of La Laguna and precede the spring that will be held at the University of Valladolid.

The conclusions of these conferences will serve to lay the foundations of the work that will be developed in the coming months.

Crue Sustainability Sector Commission of Crue Universidades Españolas constituted in 2009 and currently chaired by the rector of the University of Oviedo, Santiago García-Granda.

The objective of the Sectoral Commission is to gather the experience of the universities in the field of environmental management, the advances in the environmentalization of the university community, in areas related to gender and equality policies and work in risk prevention, at the same time that cooperation in these areas was encouraged for the exchange of experiences and the promotion of good practices.
