Some 170 people, including those responsible for sustainability, prevention of occupational risks and equality policies of 34 Spanish universities analyzed until Friday at the Polytechnic University of Cartagena (UPCT) the role of universities in the Ecological Transition.
The Crue-Sustainability Sector Commission of the Conference of Rectors of Universities of Spain (CRUE) has chosen the UPCT to discuss the role of universities within the framework of the 2030 Agenda of the United Nations Organization for Sustainable Development.
During the opening of the conference, in which were present the president of Crue Sustainability, Santiago García, the rector of the UPCT, Alejandro Díaz, the general director of Universities, Juan Monzó and the councilor of the City of Cartagena, Mercedes García, The rector of the UPCT has stressed the importance of "setting an example" to society on the importance of sustainability and students to assume that sustainability "is fundamental in their career and life."
Díaz stressed that issues such as reducing the carbon footprint, energy efficiency or improving gender equality will be addressed.
For his part, the president of Crue-Sustainability has said that through these conferences is intended to "strengthen the leadership of universities in the field of sustainability."
The thematic sessions will continue with the lines of work initiated in the last days of Crue-Sustainability held at the University of La Laguna last March.
They will address issues for compliance with the 2030 Agenda by universities as the evaluation of university sustainability, environmental improvements in university buildings, University and sustainable mobility, university urbanism and sustainability or curriculum sustainability.
Apart from that, the meeting will address gender policies, the prevention of occupational risks and the challenges of participation and volunteering.
