The temporary exhibition 'MVSAS' is already exhibited at the National Archaeological Museum of Madrid and can be visited until next December 9.
The exhibition includes four paintings of the first century of the muses Calíope and Terpsícore, of Apolo and a text painted on the emperor Heliogábalo that were found in the archaeological excavations that are being made in the Archaeological Park of the Molinete.
The mayor and president of Cartagena Puerto de Culturas, Ana Belén Castejón, inaugurated it in Madrid this Monday, October 1, in the temporary exhibition room of the MAN, accompanied by the director of the National Archaeological Museum, Andrés Carretero;
the general director of Fine Arts of the Ministry of Culture, Román Fernández-Baca;
the director of the State Research Agency of the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities, Marina Villegas Gracia;
General Director of Culture of the Region of Murcia, Juan Antonio Lorca;
the general director of Communication of Repsol, Begoña Elices and the curator of the exhibition, José Miguel Noguera.
During the presentation, the mayor of the City Council highlighted the work being done by professionals who manage the cultural and historical heritage of Cartagena and said that these tasks "have been promoted and supported by the City Council, and have resulted in a greater and better social knowledge of the value of cultural, historical and archaeological heritage as a powerful asset ".
Among the archaeological projects that are developed in the municipality, the municipal councilor has highlighted - in addition to the Roman Theater and its museum and that of the National Museum of Underwater Archeology (ARQVA) - the one that is currently undertaking Cartagena Port of Cultures in the Neighborhood of the Roman Forum, in the Molinete Archaeological Park, where the pieces that make up this show come from.
Of this enclave, the mayor of Cartagena has explained that it is an archaeological reserve area located in the heart of the city.
"In which since 2008 it is recovering and putting in value a rich historical and archaeological heritage that encompasses not only the legacy of the ancient Roman colony, but a broad chronological spectrum between the third century BC and the twentieth century itself" .
Likewise, Castejón has indicated that this exhibition collects "materials of enormous historical, artistic and patrimonial value" and has emphasized the importance of an exhibition of these characteristics traveling to the Spanish capital to be exhibited at the National Archaeological Museum, before be permanently hosted in the future Roman Forum Museum, which is currently being built.
Finally, the mayor underlined that "the project of the Barrio del Foro Romano is a magnificent example of public-private collaboration in the recovery of historical heritage, in particular thanks to the participation of the Repsol Foundation."
Cartagena Port of Cultures organizes together with the MAN and the Archaeological Museum of Murcia, this temporary exhibition that, after being presented recently in the Municipal Archaeological Museum 'Enrique Escudero de Castro', will remain in Madrid from October 1 to December 9 .
Later it will return to the Region to be exhibited in the Archaeological Museum of Murcia, from the 18 of December to the 17 of February of 2019.
On the occasion of the exhibition, a series of lectures has also been scheduled at the Madrid Museum with the intention of reflecting and disseminating the archaeological, conservation-restoration and value-added works carried out in the Archaeological Park of the Molinete de Cartagena.
