- As of today, the residents of some fifteen housing estates in Cartagena lose the service offered by Correos and will have to move to the nearest Postal Office to pick up their regular mail, which in the case of Isla Plana and La Azohía is more than 12 kilometers, in the municipality of Mazarrón
- Orange training takes months warning the City Council and requesting their mediation to install shared mailboxes in these populations, "but the PSOE Government has completely ignored the problem," laments Cs spokesman in Cartagena, Manuel Padín
Cartagena, Monday, October 1.
As of today, unless it has proceeded to incorporate concentrated mailboxes (BCP), the ordinary mail sent to the Cartagena populations qualified since July as a 'special environment' will have to be picked up at the nearest Postal Office, which in the case of Isla Plana and La Azohía is located in the municipality of Mazarrón.
"We feel shameful and humiliating the attitude that the City Council has had with the affected neighbors", said the spokesman for Citizens in Cartagena, Manuel Padín, who says that in the case of Isla Plana and La Azohía, "after receiving the City Council the notice of opening of the administrative procedure on March 12, 2018, did not contact the neighbors through the Neighborhood Board or the Neighborhood Association to alert them of the situation, to offer assistance and advice, to collect their demands against possible allegations, or to inform them at least of the possibilities to be assigned to the concentrated mailboxes to avoid traveling to the Postal Office of Mazarrón ".
"The silence, abandonment and indifference have been absolute since the opening of the procedure, but it is especially incomprehensible that they do not respond to the requests and mediation requests that have been sent from the Neighborhood Board and from our Municipal Group since mid-July. ", the orange spokesman has indicated.
In addition, at the last plenary session of the Board of Isla Plana-La Azohía unanimously approved the motion of Citizens, defended by the president, María Dolores Díaz, to ask the City of Cartagena to mediate in the conflict with Correos.
The members of the Board supported urging the local government to request an extension of the resolution to Correos, to carry out a study to determine the future location of the shared mailboxes, to implement a system for the registration of the affected neighbors and to acquire and place the multi-domiciled mailboxes and then charge the neighbors as appropriate, as indicated by the municipal auditor.
"This petition will be extended to all affected populations in the next ordinary plenary session since the PSOE government only seems to move, a little, when it has a plenary mandate to obey," said Manuel Padín who believes that "Citizens have behaved in this case in a loyal, collaborative and exquisite manner with the Government of Cartagena but the response has been indifference and contempt ".
For its part, the president of the Board of Isla Plana La Azohía, Maria Dolores Diaz, regrets that the City "despite all the warnings has led to the arrival on October 1, it is discouraging to work and insist so much on something so that later your City Council ignores you in this way ".
"I have tried everything so that today will not arrive without being prepared, but it has not been enough, I do not have the necessary tools to organize the registration of the neighbors and I hope that the local Executive, sooner or later react and organize the installation of the BCPs as other municipalities have done ", said Díaz, who explained that" many elderly people do not have or can not use the vehicle to go to Mazarrón ".
