At about eight thirty this morning, the fire broke out in a house in a building on the Ronda del Ferrol street in Cartagena, in the neighborhood of Casas del Sindicato.
Several calls alerted at that time to the Center for Coordination of Emergencies 1-1-2 Region of Murcia who had heard an explosion, smoke and later a tongue of fire.
The incident was recorded on the second floor, moving quickly to the place six vehicles with their corresponding firefighters of the Fire and Rescue Extinction Service (SEIS) of the City of Cartagena, Local Police of Cartagena, National Police and eight ambulances of the Management of Emergencies and Sanitary Emergencies 061, two Mobile Emergency Units, four ambulances and two Ambulances of the Emergency Service.
Inside the building, eight floors, there were people trapped who could not leave because of the amount of black smoke that was in the area of ​​the stairs.
The toilets had to require oxygen masks at the hospitals of Rosell and Santa Lucia, when they ran out of available units.
The situation was controlled at 9:28 am and a total of 16 people injured, 15 minor and one in serious condition, were transferred to the two hospitals in Cartagena, all of them by smoke inhalation.
Among them two policemen, a boy of 4 years and two women, along with other neighbors of the property.
