- The Municipal Citizens Group will present a similar motion at the next ordinary plenary session to extend this mediation to all the Cartagena developments affected by the impending abolition of the ordinary postal service as of October 1
The Assembly of the Neighborhood Board of Isla Plana-La Azohía unanimously approved last night the motion of Citizens, defended by the president, María Dolores Díaz, to ask the City of Cartagena to mediate in the conflict with Correos for the recent qualification of several developments as a "special environment" and the abolition of the ordinary postal service as of October 1.
The members of the Board supported urging the local government to request an extension of the resolution to Correos, to carry out a study to determine the future location of the shared mailboxes, to implement a system for the registration of the affected neighbors and to acquire and place the multi-domiciled mailboxes and then collect them from the neighbors as appropriate, as recommended by the municipal auditor.
Some of the neighbors who attended this plenary session expressed their intention to meet directly with the mayor of Cartagena, Ana Belén Castejón, to directly transfer her claims.
Last June, the residents of the vicinity of the Isla Plana-La Azohía Neighborhood Board were sent a letter signed by the local post office official informing about the qualification of the urbanized area of Isla Plana as a "special environment".
With this resolution, the residents were informed that as of October 1, unless it was necessary to add concentrated mailboxes (BCP), the ordinary mail would have to be picked up by the neighbors in the Postal Office of the Port of Mazarrón.
María Dolores Díaz explained that although she has submitted several internal requirements this summer, no one from the City Council has offered us help or advice so far, nor the municipal legal services, nor the Decentralization area and from Intervention, they have explained to us that the purchase of shared mailboxes, as it is a private matter, can not and should not be borne by the budget of the Board.
The local president also points out that "from Correos they only say that we manage it from the Neighborhood Council and the neighborhood associations".
On the other hand, the spokesman of Citizens in Cartagena, Manuel Padín, has informed that his Municipal Group will also send the same request to the Government of Cartagena, both in internal writing and in the next ordinary plenary, "and we will extend this mediation to all the urbanizations recently qualified in the municipality as a special environment ".
