The president of Isla Plana-La Azohía calls for a plenary session to request the mediation of the City Council in the conflict with the Post Office (24/09/2018)

- The orange training spokesman, Manuel Padín, announces that he will extend this petition at the next plenary session to all the affected urbanizations of the municipality

Cartagena, Monday, September 24-.

The president of the Neighborhood Board of Isla Plana-La Azohía, María Dolores Díaz, has convened an extraordinary plenary session next Wednesday to request the City of Cartagena to mediate in the conflict with Correos for the recent qualification of several developments as a "special environment" and the abolition of the postal service.

Díaz called this Plenary session after sending several requests for assistance to the City Council since July and did not receive a response.

Last June, the residents of the vicinity of the Isla Plana-La Azohía Neighborhood Board were sent a letter signed by the local post office official informing about the qualification of the urbanized area of Isla Plana as a "special environment".

With this resolution, the residents were informed that as of October 1, unless it was necessary to add concentrated mailboxes (BCP), the ordinary mail would have to be picked up by the neighbors in the Postal Office of the Port of Mazarrón.

María Dolores Díaz explained that despite their attempts, no one from the City Council has offered us help or advice so far, nor the municipal legal services, nor the Decentralization area and from Intervention, they have explained to us that the purchase of the mailboxes As it is a private matter, it can not and should not be borne by the budget of the Board.

The local president also points out that "from Correos they only say that we manage it from the Neighborhood Council and the neighborhood associations".

"Given the silence and inaction of the City Council, I decided to convene an extraordinary plenary session to seek the support of my fellow members and urge the local government to mediate in this situation by requesting an extension to Correos of its resolution, conducting a study to determine the location of the shared mailboxes, implementing a system for the registration of the affected neighbors and acquiring the pluridomiciliated mailboxes and then collect them accordingly, "the president assured that" this has already happened in other municipalities, and has been managed by the way we are asking for it. "

"We just want them to give us a hand so as not to force hundreds of neighbors to have to travel to Mazarrón to pick up their mail," says Díaz.

On the other hand, the spokesman of Citizens in Cartagena, Manuel Padín, has informed that his Municipal Group will also send the same request to the Government of Cartagena, both in internal writing and in the next ordinary plenary, "and we will extend this mediation to all the urbanizations recently qualified in the municipality as a special environment ".

The decision of the Post Office not to distribute house by house in the environments described as 'special' has its origin in 2016, when the National Commission of Markets and Competition (CNMC) determined that in areas that are so qualified should be grouped mailboxes in multi-household batteries.
