The recovery of the glorious history of Cartagena through the celebration of the Carthaginians and Romans from 1990 to the present, Year 29, has impregnated the proclamation that the mayor, Ana Belén Castejón, has offered Friday from the balcony of the Consistorial Palace to give for inaugurated the celebrations, that will last until Sunday 30 of September.
Although the beginnings were not simple, the festivities were born in the midst of an industrial crisis, the mayor recalled that the enthusiasm of the people of Cartagena for their heritage and their fighting spirit were fundamental to take them forward, "looking at our glorious past was an incentive to transform a present that did not convince us'.
In his speech, Castejón has had mentions and thanks for all those who have worked for the parties, starting with the presidents of the Federation of Troops and Legions, from the first, Tomás Martínez Pagán, to the present passing, among others, by Conchi Gil, the only woman who has held this position, which has made her claim this pending issue, 'I want more women as presidents because I know you are worth a lot and that you can do a great job leading Carthaginians and Romans'.
Nor has he forgotten the proclaimer, who behind these leaders are the festeros, the true heart and soul of Carthaginians and Romans, an example to follow for their struggle to turn them into the Fiestas del Mediterráneo and reach last year the Declaration of International Tourist Interest.
And among the objectives, to reach everyone, to influence the spirit of integration promoted by the parties, for all the world to participate, 'an integration that we must also take to the neighborhoods and councils so that they feel even more involved.

The last mention of the mayor in his proclamation, has been for all those who, without belonging to Troops and Legions, have contributed to the success of the festivities, as is the case of municipal officials, merchants, restaurateurs and artisans, with a special memory for Pepe Albajaladejo, 'the photographer of the City Council who year after year captured with his images the great moments of our parties, without missing any.

After these words and the applause of the public, again the fireworks put the finishing touch to the proclamation.
The president of the Regional Assembly, Rosa Peñalver, accompanied the mayor in the presidency of the event;
the government delegate, Diego Conesa;
the councilor spokeswoman, Noelia Arroyo, as well as a good number of civil and military authorities, as well as representatives of the Federation of Troops and Legions with its president, José Antonio Meca, at the head.
Among the acts prior to the proclamation, the Invocation to the Capitalina Triad has been celebrated in the Roman Theater, and the Sacred Fire has been lit on the Port Esplanade, which culminated with a spectacular fireworks display that illuminated all colors the mouth
In addition, and already on the stage of the Plaza del Ayuntamiento, at the gates of the Town Hall, the title of 'festero honoris causa' has been given to the director of the Repsol refinery in Cartagena, Joaquín García Estañ Salcedo.
