This morning, the deputy speaker of the Municipal Group MC Cartagena, Isabel García, after the news confirming the intention of Ana Belén Castejón to sacrifice part of the investments committed in the municipal budget to pay public employees the extra hours owed to them, has explained a series of concepts and consequences of this political decision.

García clarified that "we are not against the payment of RED hours to civil servants, we oppose the objective fact that new public employees are not hired while paying overtime, and we argue reasons of efficiency and optimization. and even worsens the working conditions of some bodies, forced to work almost every holiday.To allocate that money to pay hours is the result of a non-existent planning, and that costs us money and worsens the quality of services. It should be noted that when MC arrived at the Mayor's Office in 2015, the City Council's spending at this time was budgeted at two million euros.
Through budgetary modifications, it had to increase by approximately 25% to 2,450,169 euros.
A year later, the budgeted remained in those two million.
There was also an increase in similar characteristics (2,405,142 euros).
Based on past years, in 2017 it was decided to increase the initial budget for RED hours to 2.5 million.

This decision was notified to the councilor of personnel, Francisco Aznar, of the PSOE, making him understand (or at least that was our intention) that every year it would not be feasible to spend the entire budget allocated in RED hours and then ask for more, especially when this forecast it had adjusted to what was really spent the previous year.
Surprisingly, in the last quarter of the year, we found the need to increase the amount allocated to RED hours by more than one million, reaching 3,692,000 euros, which represents an increase of almost 50% over the budget.
