Students of the CEIPS Aníbal, Asdrúbal and Nuestra Señora del Mar march against school absenteeism (18/09/2018)

Students of the Aníbal schools, of Los Mateos;

Asdrúbal, from Lo Campano;

and Our Lady of the Sea, of Saint Lucia, marched during the morning of this Tuesday, September 18, under the slogan "Every day without fail", in a tour that has taken them to IES Santa Lucia, where they have taken activities and actions against school absenteeism.

The edile of Education, David Martinez, has accompanied the students during the second March that has started at 9:30 am and has culminated in the final party around 11:30 am, in an act that has also attended the mayor of Cartagena, Ana Belén Castejón.

The students of all the participating schools received a cap and a backpack in which they could read the motto of this action and that they have carried throughout the journey of the March.

In addition, the Department of Education, organizer of the event, has distributed fruit and bottles of water for lunch for all children.

The IES San Lucia, has been the meeting point of all participants and the place where this second March against school absenteeism has culminated.

The children have followed three different routes, since they have left their respective schools to conclude at the Santa Lucia Secondary Education Institute "normally the stretch with the most absenteeism occurs during ESO - in the third and fourth grades- That is why we wanted to bring the children here, so they can see what the continuation is and that after school they have to continue studying here at the Institute ", said the mayor of Education, David Martínez.

The mayor of Cartagena, Ana Belén Castejón, has intervened before all the students of the participating schools and IES Santa Lucia to encourage them at the start of the new school year and has emphasized the importance of attending classes every day " to be able to get a job in the future. "

This March is made within the framework of the campaign that the Department of Education made against school absenteeism, to raise awareness that all children must go every day to school, without fail, "the idea is to encourage children so that this beginning of the school is not a traumatic thing for them, but on the contrary, it is a party, something fun, "said Martinez.

For this, in the IES Santa Lucia the youngest children have been able to enjoy the performances of UrbanCT, who have rapped some lyrics against school absenteeism, to raise awareness about this problem from music.

In addition, they have attended an exhibition of the Zumba Group of Lo Campano.

FIGURES OF SCHOOL ABSENCE AND ACTING PROTOCOL

On the other hand, the edile of Education, David Martinez, has set at 1% the number of school absenteeism that Cartagena currently has - in primary and secondary school students - "but from the Department of Education we continue working to lower that figure and get to get to 0 ".

Martinez also explained what is the protocol to follow in cases of school absenteeism, "when there are many long absences, the first thing is to contact the family, who is cited in the Department of Education and tries solve the problem by talking to the faculty and the center's management as well. "

To which he added that "when this does not work, we try with different measures that the student returns to the center, if it is not obtained from the Department we get in touch with the Counseling and at the end, next to Social Services opens a absenteeism file that finishes in the court, to give a touch to the families and that they know that it is important ".

Although the mayor wanted to emphasize that "before reaching these extremes all other routes are exhausted."
