The four paintings of the Muses, found in the excavations of the Molinete, will travel to Madrid and Murcia, but before they will be exhibited in the Municipal Archaeological Museum of Cartagena, 'Enrique Escudero de Castro'.
The four representations will be, finally, exposed permanently in the future Museum of the Roman Forum of the Molinete in Cartagena.
Cartagena Port of Cultures has organized, together with the National Archaeological Museum of Madrid and the Archaeological Museum of Murcia, a new temporary exhibition, 'MVSAS', in order to disseminate the archaeological work carried out in recent years on the hill of Molinete.
The sample consists of the paintings of the first century of the muses Calliope and Terpsichore, Apollo and a painted text alluding to the Emperor Heliogabalus, found in the excavations of the mentioned hill and recently restored.
The mayor of Cartagena, Ana Belén Castejón, presented on Monday, September 17, the itinerant exhibition of 'MVSAS'.
The councilor has been accompanied by the general director of Cultural Property of the CARM, Juan Antonio Lorca;
the councilor of the area of ​​Culture of the city council of Cartagena, David Martínez;
the directors of the 'Barrio del Foro' excavation, José Miguel Noguera and María José Madrid;
the director of Conservation-Restoration of the Molinete / Barrio del Foro Romano, Izaskun Martínez;
as well as responsible for Cartagena Port of Cultures and the Municipal Archaeological Museum Enrique Escudero de Castro.
The mayor has been pleased to present this project "that each one of us here is especially excited".
Castejón has also explained the reason for this itinerant exhibition because, "the Barrio del Foro is one of our most important sites, which has pleasantly surprised us with great discoveries and we want to share with the rest of the country."
The exhibition, as the councilor explained, will also serve to promote the future 'Museo del Foro Romano del Molinete'.
For this reason, 'MVSAS' will be in the National Archaeological Museum of Madrid, from October 1 to December 9, and the Archaeological Museum of Murcia, from December 18 to February 17, 2019.
Before starting your trip, 'MVSAS' will be exhibited at the Municipal Archaeological Museum of Cartagena, 'Enrique Escudero de Castro', on Tuesday 18 September.
In the morning, staff from Cartagena Puerto de Culturas will be available to visitors to explain the pieces that will be exhibited during that day.
In the afternoon, the directors of the intervention, José Miguel Noguera, professor of Archeology at the University of Murcia, and Izaskun Martínez, director of Conservation-Restoration of the Windlass / Barrio del Foro Romano, will present and discuss the paintings before their trip .
This presentation will have a reduced capacity of 25 people and will be carried out in two passes: at 17:30 a general pass and at 6:30 a pass for the friends of the Club Cartagena Port of Cultures and the Association of Friends of the Archaeological Museum 'Musae Domus'.

On the occasion of the exhibition, a series of lectures has also been scheduled at the Madrid Museum with the intention of reflecting and disseminating the archaeological, conservation-restoration and value-added works carried out in the Archaeological Park of the Molinete de Cartagena.
A large heritage recovery project financed thanks to the agreement signed between the City of Cartagena and the Repsol Foundation, being managed by the Cartagena Port of Cultures consortium.
