The mayor of Cartagena, Ana Belén Castejón, made at 5:50 am today, Monday, September 17, the inaugural trip of the first hybrid train that connects Cartagena with Madrid at 4.20 hours, about 40 minutes less than what he did until now.
The first mayor has participated in the launch of this new service with the Government delegate in the Region of Murcia, Diego Conesa, and the director of Commercial Services East Renfe, José Antonio Grandel.
The first Alvia 5567 hybrid train has left the station of Víctor Beltrí with the mayor and the delegate has joined the scale they have made in the Carmen station of the city of Murcia at half past six.
Castejón said she felt "proud to be the first person to have come this morning from the station of Cartagena in this first hybrid train that has launched the Government of Spain and that will allow a Cartagena to take 4 hours 20 minutes to arrive to Madrid, compared to the more than 5 hours it took until today.
In addition, once the Camarillas variant is operative, the journey will be reduced by half an hour more.
I am very happy that, in only 3 months, the central government has been able to start up something that we have been waiting for since 2012 ".
So far the time of this trip with Altaria trains ranged between 4 hours 45 minutes and 5 hours 15 minutes.
The duration of the trip between Cartagena and Madrid will be reduced again by another half hour in the first quarter of 2019, when the Camarillas variant is scheduled to enter service.
For its part, the return journey will depart from Atocha at 4.40 pm, its arrival in Cartagena being scheduled at nine o'clock at night.
OFFERS FOR COLLEGE STUDENTS
From today Renfe increases the offers and trips with a medium distance fare to facilitate mobility in the travel of students and employees of both the UPCT and the UMU.
This new proposal supposes an extension in the existent offer of frequencies using squares in the services of long distance, Alvia, Altaria and Talgo, admitting to the personnel of the university in this type of trains.
In this way, regional services are increased from 7 to 11 one-way trains and others back, or what is the same, 800 seats more per direction, thus offering a greater time slot of services, which will improve mobility between Both cities.
In addition, both students and workers of both universities may purchase the so-called Bonus 20, so the price per ticket will be 1.90 euros.
These measures can benefit some 5,000 people, among the 3,700 users who come from Murcia to Cartagena and 1,300 who do it in the opposite direction.
HYBRID TRAINS
Hybrid trains of the 730 series are versatile vehicles that can circulate indistinctly by the international width lines and by the conventional width using the shaft exchanger installed in the Albacete Los Llanos station, which allows the connection between both infrastructures.
The hybrid train has both diesel and electric traction technology, which allows the advantages of high speed to be extended to non-electrified sections, with a maximum speed of 250 kilometers per hour.
In addition, the hybrid Alvias have spaces adapted for travelers with reduced mobility.
For its part, the train Altaria has the series 334, a series of diesel-electric locomotives built by Vossloh under its commercial model Euro 3000 and are designed to transport passengers at 200 kilometers per hour by conventional lines without electrification.
As for prices, the launch of the Alvia starts with a promotion of 40 euros round trip from Cartagena, being the normal price without discounts of 55.6 euros.
