The mayor of Cartagena, Ana Belén Castejón, and the Councilor for Infrastructure, Juan Pedro Torralba, have been responsible for the reopening of the Parque de la Rosa, following the reforms undertaken for its improvement, as well as the inauguration of the first Canine Park, annex to the park.
This Friday, September 14, both spaces have opened their doors, one for the use and enjoyment of all citizens and the other for the recreation of dogs
The facilities of the first public Canine Park of the municipality of Cartagena has 1,500 square meters fenced, with a double door to prevent animals from escaping and a drinking fountain for pets, as well as benches between the trees so that neighbors can be comfortable while their dogs play.
This public space will be used for the recreation of animals with an itinerary of exercises, where pets can make the journey accompanied by their owners.
The owners of the dogs, as in any public space, will have the obligation in the dog park to remove the feces of their pets.
The mayor of Cartagena, Ana Belén Casatejón, said that they collected the petitions of the citizens who "demanded a recreational area for dogs that was not a simple pipi can and that would respond to the exercise needs of their pets, especially larger dogs. "
In this way, a measure that promotes animal welfare is implemented, since it allows the dogs to have a space for games and exercise, without the attachment of a leash, enabling a safe space for them and their owners.
In addition, specific rules of use have been established for the proper use of the park, which are detailed on a sign at the entrance of the area.
Castejón has explained to the neighbors who have attended the inauguration that this park will serve as a pilot experience to see the use that citizens make of it.
"If it is positive, we will continue to build this type of facilities throughout the municipality," the mayor promised.
REOPENING THE PARK OF THE ROSA
After inaugurating with a commemorative plaque the Canino Park, the mayor and the neighbors have visited the Parque de la Rosa to see how it had been after its remodeling.
In the period of time that has remained closed, 40 students of the mixed course of employment and training of the Regional Service of Employment and Training (SEF) with which the Agency for Local Development and Employment (ADLE) has collaborated have carried out the project 'Parque de la Rosa', through which they have completely transformed this leisure space.
Some of these young people have come to the reopening to explain the work they have done in it.
This park, which is the third in size of the municipality, with 3 hectares, but had deteriorated a lot since its inauguration.
The mayor has commented, in relation to the students who have corrected the deficiencies of the park, that it was gratifying "to see with what effort and with what enthusiasm they have done their daily tasks is a reason for pride, since one of our main objectives is to help to our young people to improve their employability ".
In this group of young people there has been an artist, Dolores Hernández, who has left a sculpture of roses that presides over the park.
The young people have applied the knowledge acquired during their training in a real project in which they have carried out the following masonry and gardening works:
A perimeter road.
The creation of a rose garden.
The restoration of meadows and walls.
Painting and general cleaning of the premises.
Improvement and redistribution of drip irrigation.
Planting of trees and groups of plants.
Fencing repair.
For its part, the Department of Infrastructure, directed by Juan Pedro Torralba, has also done work to improve this space for leisure and public enjoyment:
Improved playgrounds.
Repairing the dirt pavement in some areas of the park.
Repairing all the lighting.
The City of Cartagena plans to continue making work in the Park of La Rosa as: the creation of new meadows and the installation at the entrance of the premises of a kiosk or bar for service park users
