PODEMOS denounces the abandonment of the popular neighborhoods of Cartagena by the Socialist Government, and specifically that of the Barriada Virgen de la Caridad, which has been asking for the presence of Ana Belén Castejón for weeks to convey the serious security and social care problems that the neighborhood suffers, and it has not deigned to answer.
CTSSP (PODEMOS) attended last Wednesday an assembly called by the Association of Neighbors, to address the situation that is being lived in the neighborhood for months, even years.
The political parties and the Municipal Government were summoned to this assembly, but they were only representatives of the Federation of Neighborhood Associations (FAVCAC) and of CTSSP - Podemos.
The assembly, which came to gather more than 100 people, went to the residents of the neighborhood alarmed with the situation of insecurity that are living in the neighborhood.
They reported that many elderly people are assaulted in broad daylight and that robberies take place inside houses.
Many older neighbors reported how they were assaulted, and described the fear they feel when walking through the streets of the neighborhood.
It is more than evident that the Government has not done anything to solve the situation of abandonment of the neighborhood, and that is also deceiving people, since in September 2017 and again in the plenary session of last August was approved unanimously (with the vote of the Government) the need to implement an Integral Plan of socio-community intervention that encompassed actions in the field of housing, infrastructure, and what is more important, in social care and safety.
CTSSP - PODEMOS considers inadmissible the absence of social intervention with families that suffer social exclusion in the neighborhood, and even worse that the Government does not comply with its word and does not implement a coordinated Security Plan between the Local Police and the Police National to intervene in the serious problems of citizen security suffered by the residents of the neighborhood.
None of this has been carried out, and even worse, no one from the Municipal Government has moved to the neighborhood to talk to the neighbors and start studying ways to solve the existing problem.
For We can inaction Socialist Government translates into a lack of respect for the neighbors of the Six hundred, as popularly known neighborhood, in addition to a tremendous irresponsibility, they leave people abandoned to their fate, regardless of the consequences of that abandonment.
For this reason, in the assembly convened in the neighborhood, decided to take action to report to the City Council the lack of social care and security they suffer, including a proposal launched by the FAVCAC, a call for concentration-neighborhood demonstration, all neighborhoods affected mainly by citizen insecurity.
They will also go to the municipal registry, delivering a personal request to the Mayor's Office so that their demands and claims are met.
We can demand from the PSOE Government, and the Mayor in the first person, that he begin to act in the Barriada Virgen de la Caridad, with the same effectiveness as he did by sitting with the Government Delegate and General Secretary of his party, Diego Conesa , to organize the security of the Carthaginian and Roman festivals, where they also reached an agreement with the new chief commissioner of the National Police Force of Cartagena, to coordinate with the Government Delegation, and order a reinforcement of vigilance in the districts of Santa Lucia and Los Mateos, after complaints from neighbors about vandalism.
From We can denounce the lack of political will of the Mayor, Ana Belén Castejón, who is also Councilor for Social Services, to solve the problems of the neighbors of the Barriada Virgen de la Caridad, but also of many other neighborhoods and towns that they are abandoned of the municipal intervention.
"When you want you can, you just have to sit down with the neighbors and listen to them, to start working on a comprehensive plan that meets the most basic needs of the people.
But for that you have to believe in it, and the mayor of Cartagena has other more important things to do before being next to those who need it most, "says Pilar Marcos, spokesperson for CTSSP and Secretary General of Podemos in Cartagena.
