Cartagena is on the agenda of the central government as far as infrastructures are concerned, since the drafting of the Cartagena High Speed ​​project will be tendered in the coming weeks, since the Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) expires in December 2019, and have prioritized the improvement of suburban services between Murcia and Cartagena.
This was announced by the Minister of Development, José Luis Ábalos, who visited the municipality on Thursday, September 13, to meet with the mayor of Cartagena, Ana Belén Castejón;
the Secretary of State for Infrastructures, Pedro Saura;
and the delegate of the Government, Diego Conesa.
The mayor announced that during their meeting they had the opportunity to review the actions that depend on the government in railway matters and that in a very short time will see the light, at the same time that has expressed that since the government of Pedro Sánchez are taking decisions very important and with specific dates.
The minister Abalos has informed that next Monday will begin the connection service Cartagena - Madrid, which will last for four hours.
He also indicated that the start-up of the Camarillas variant, whose works have been completed, will reduce that journey by half an hour to an additional 20 minutes, which will mean a difference of half an hour or forty minutes with the AVE.
The minister also stressed that they are going to tender the drafting of the Cartagena Alta Velocidad project, which did not exist, and to try to specify the integration of the AVE in the municipality.
"We are in a great hurry to start the works," said Abalos, since the expiration of the DIA would delay the project.
With regard to this issue, Pedro Saura has indicated that in the coming weeks the Cartagena High Speed ​​Society will be convened, while at the same time he has advised that upon arrival at the Ministry, they have observed that a large part of the route had no project.
"With these conditions, the AVE would not arrive until 2025," said the Secretary of State for Infrastructure.
The minister has also announced that four more connections have been established in favor of the students who make the Murcia-Cartagena route so that they can use the long-distance service at suburban fares, around 2 euros, a request made from the Rector of the UPCT.
He has also indicated that one of his priorities is the construction of a commuter plan for the Region of Murcia, at the same time that has qualified that the electrification of the AVE will serve to make that project a reality.
Ana Belén Castejón has highlighted the commitment of the current Ministry of Public Works, since Cartagena technicians from the Ministry and Adif visited it, as well as the government delegate, the Secretary of State and the minister to talk about infrastructure in Cartagena with " facts and specific dates "and a well-defined road map regarding the commuter plan.
