This morning, MC Cartagena has sent a request to the General Directorate of Cultural Property of the CARM so that this body can begin the procedure of declaration as an Intangible Cultural Interest Property in favor of the Asian Cartagena.

This Cartagena-based training initiative gives continuity to the work carried out during the current legislature in the protection and recognition of the heritage and identity of the Campo de Cartagena region.

The president of MC Cartagena, Jesús Giménez, said that "in these times, when the indoctrination of the Autonomous Community and that fight against the identity of Cartagena and its entire region is becoming evident, we must stop hiding our material and immaterial heritage ".

In this line, explained that "if there is something that is in the collective ideology and within the culture of Cartagena and its region is the Asian Cartagena, so we believe that this drink is entitled to be declared of Cultural Interest as heritage immaterial and so we have requested in the morning today. "

"It is indisputable that it is the reference coffee drink of the entire Campo de Cartagena and that, around it, there is an authentic culture for its roots among residents and its attraction for visitors, coming to exist as a claim and trademark ", added the president of MC.

The request of MC, said Giménez, "draws attention to the different articles, the tradition and all the sources that speak of the root and birth of this drink and we always do it from the perspective of the book, published last year," El Asian Cartagena, its creation and evolution towards excellence ', Francisco Antonio Rosas Fernández-Villamil, which should drink this file, without prejudice to all those accessions that have, because it is a drink very associated with the entire field of Cartagena and that deserves this recognition ".

Asian Cartagena

The Asian Cartagena, popularized by the bar 'Pedrin' of El Albujón from 1947, is a coffee drink spiced with alcohol typical of Cartagena and the Campo de Cartagena region.

The commonly accepted recipe today is coffee with condensed milk and cognac, accompanied by a few drops of Licor 43, a couple of coffee beans, lemon rind and cinnamon.

The drink is served in a special glass, made of glass thicker than usual, whose design is inspired by the strong glass for elaborated vermouth, since 1908, in the old factory 'Unión Vidriera de España, S.A', located in the neighborhood of Santa Lucía (Cartagena).
