This morning, the MC spokesman, José López, accompanied by the councilor and head of Heritage and the president of the formation, Ricardo Segado and Jesús Giménez, has visited the III University Campus of Archaeological Practices and Training 'Ciudad de Cartagena', which It is taking place during the month of September on the Monte Sacro.
In this way, responsible Cartagena have checked first hand the work done by the twenty participating students, who are completing different objectives of didactic, historical-archaeological and urban, mainly through manual excavations, which has led to the discovery of various objects and structures of the republican era, dating from the 1st century BC
Concern of MC for the Historical and Archaeological Heritage
It should be remembered that this initiative was launched last year by MC, with José López in the Mayor's Office and Ricardo Segado as councilor of the Culture and Heritage Area, with the main objective of intervening in the upper terrace of this deposit, in whose subsoil Archaeological structures were detected through georadar studies.
In the same way, the second edition, carried out two months after the first one, was also organized by the Government of Cartagena, while the present one was initiated thanks to the pressure and insistence of Segado from the opposition, thus giving continuity to
the good actions carried out until then in patrimonial matters and avoiding that the socialist misgovernment eliminated all trace of the good work of MC in his two and a half years in the Cartagena government.
In this sense, those responsible for MC have lamented the lack of measures to advance in the recovery of the surroundings of Monte Sacro, for which some specific actions were projected such as the restoration of the mill or the construction of a public square.
Collaboration between public entities of the Region
The Campus, led by the municipal coordinator of Historical and Archaeological Heritage, Mari Carmen Berrocal, began with the collaboration of different entities such as the Casco Antiguo society, the Polytechnic University of Cartagena (UPCT), the University of Murcia (UM) and the University National of Distance Education (UNED), being, as Lopez recalled, the first occasion in which the three public universities of the Region collaborated together to launch a Campus.
As for the concrete works carried out during the three editions of the Archeology Campus, the clarification of concrete areas, terraces and extensive surfaces to verify the nature of the remains found was carried out, among other tasks.
