The Community will allocate 300,000 euros this year for the recovery of the facade of the church of Santa María de Gracia de Cartagena.
This was announced today the Minister of Transparency, Participation and Spokesperson, Noelia Arroyo, who, accompanied by the Secretary General of the Ministry of Tourism and Culture, María Casajús, has met with the episcopal vicar of Cartagena, José Abellán, and with the Big Brothers of the Brotherhoods of the Holy Week of Cartagena.
Arroyo advanced that this week will be sent from the Historical Heritage of Culture service the report that gives the final approval to the restoration project sent by the Bishopric of Cartagena and indicated that next week is expected to address this new acting on the Governing Council.
The recovery of the facade of the church Santa María de Gracia "is a new step in the heritage recovery of Cartagena and the Region of Murcia and evidence the commitment of the regional government and its president, Fernando López Miras, with the port city" , said Arroyo, who recalled that "the historical and cultural heritage is what shapes our history, which defines our identity, and that is why we work from the regional government in its recovery, maintenance and enhancement, to raise awareness all its wealth and so that the next generations can also enjoy it ".
The project will have a total budget of one million euros and, together with the Community, the City of Cartagena will provide another 300,000 euros and the Bishopric of Cartagena, 400,000.
Thus, "we re-bet for collaboration and cooperation between administrations and, in this case, also with the Bishopric, to undertake larger projects that contribute to improving and magnify the Region of Murcia," added the spokesperson counselor.
The church of Santa María de Gracia is located in the old town of Cartagena.
It is a Baroque temple with three naves and eight chapels that began to be built in 1713 and that opened its doors towards the end of the 18th century, currently guarding numerous images that also give an account of the quality in the imagery in the Region of Murcia .
In this sense, Arroyo pointed out that "the temple stands out without doubt for its beauty, its grandeur and its architecture, but we also speak of an emblematic place and much loved by the people of Cartagena because from Santa María de Gracia they leave almost all the processions of a Holy Week that is every year a great attraction to attract visitors to the Region, since we must remember that it is declared of International Tourist Interest ".
