Molinos Marfagones began its festivities last Friday, September 7 with a parade by the Musical Group of Our Lady of Solitude and the proclamation, by the hand of the mayor of Cartgena, Ana Belén Castejón.
The first mayor was accompanied by the councilman of Celebrations, Juan Pedro Torralba, and for which until today has been the mayor of the area of Welfare and Quality of Life, Obdulia Gómez.
The mayor made reference to the origins of the town, which according to the first mayor arose from an error in the pronunciation of the surname Balfagón, a manufacturer of biscuits that bought Maria Madrid 40 fanegas of land with house, well, trees and 15 vineyard tahúllas in that area, which filled with windmills to grind wheat.
"Barfagón was not a very usual surname on this land and it was not easy to pronounce either, so sooner rather than later it was replaced by Marfagón and from there it became known as Molinos Marfagones," said the councilor.
Ana Belén Castejón pointed out that this mistake gave its name to this town, which later became "a privileged place to escape the noise that floods the city and enjoy the countryside and the beauty of its almond trees".
Finally the mayor thanked the work of the neighbors, who have managed to maintain "the essence of this town preserving their traditions," he concluded.
