The three works that the Heritage Area of the City of Cartagena has planned in Monte Sacro are currently underway.

The first of these actions is the rehabilitation of the Mill that, after having been installed protective measures, as well as the cleaning and debrising of the interior and exterior throughout this summer, has begun work for the conservation and recovery of all the original elements and to eliminate the additives that distort the original mill.

The masonry works will consist of the masonry reconstruction of the most deteriorated areas, the exterior surfaces will then be covered with lime mortar and subsequently whitewashed.

Something similar will be done in the interior walls of the mill, in whose floors it will be paved with mud tiles, with a corten steel door.

The carpentry will be one of the most outstanding performances, is based on the traditional carpentry of this type of construction.

A roof truss will be placed where the spire or cover will be placed, made of national pine wood, like the blades of the mill.

The works of rehabilitation of the mill have been awarded for about 90,000 euros.

ARCHAEOLOGICAL CAMPUS

Parallel to the restoration of the mill, last week began the II Campus of Archaeological Practices and Training 'City of Cartagena' that, after the three large soundings in different places on the upper terrace of Monte Sacro last year in which two of them They showed the original levels of rock where the contemporary houses were based, this year they have focused on the sounding that contributed fertile archaeological levels and even wall structures of Roman times.

To this end, the C-1 grid has been considerably enlarged, and the surface levels of contemporary paving have been dismantled with mechanical means and archaeological monitoring, beginning immediately with manual works using archaeological methodology that are already giving results with the presence of more complete archaeological structures belonging to a house, a domus.

The Councilor for Heritage, David Martínez Noguera, visited the campus this morning and recalled that "in this area there were significant findings as the Ara Pacis in the sixteenth century or small Hermae sculptures in the nineteenth."

The mayor stressed that it is "a very attractive training proposal because it is a luxury to dig in a terrace above the city, which allows a magnificent panorama while recovering part of the Carthago Nova urbanism."

Also, today the works of the pedestrian plaza opposite Sister Francisca Armendariz have been resumed, after being accepted by the General Directorate of Culture corrective measures proposed by the Department of Heritage to document the archaeological remains found in the area.
