The mayor of Cartagena, Ana Belén Castejón, has asked the president of Renfe, Isaias Táboas, for a series of measures aimed at improving the rail connection between Cartagena and Murcia.
One of those requests has been that the train ride between Cartagena and Murcia is down to 2 euros for college students who buy the '20 Student Bonus'.
The main request of the first mayor of Cartagena has been supported by the rector of the Polytechnic University of Cartagena (UPCT).
This measure would take advantage of the existing infrastructure of the Altaria trains in Regional Express, to improve and lower the commuter services to students.
"It is an old demand of Cartagena, to improve its vicinity, so today is an important day for the city," said Castejón after finishing the meeting he has had with the delegate of the Government in the CARM, Diego Conesa;
the president of Renfe, Isaias Táboas;
and the rector of the UPCT, Alejandro Díaz Morcillo.
In this sense, the delegate of the Government in the CARM, Diego Conesa, said that the rector of the Polytechnic "we moved a request, how to take advantage of existing infrastructure to give a greater and better service, along with better economic conditions to the students ", an application that has been materialized in the meeting held with the president of Renfe, Isaias Táboas.
For its part, Táboas has accepted the petition as a "temporary solution", but which is part of the new line of action of the Ministry of Development, "to put the focus on improving service to citizens, which in the case of Murcia is around 3 and a half million users of commuter services ".
The president of Renfe has committed to respond to this request in a short period of time.
DISCOUNT BENEFICIARIES
The cost of the Altaria ticket would be reduced by using the '20 Student Bonus' which costs 39.95 euros for 20 trips.
With this measure, the cost of each trip, between Cartagena and Murcia, would mean only 2 euros for students and not 13 for the current ticket.
If the request of the UPCT is approved by Renfe, the frequencies of the trains passing from 7 to 10 daily will be increased in both directions.
In this way, from Murcia to Cartagena there would be 5 regional trains, 1 of Media Distancia and 1 Regional Express;
while from Cartagena to Murcia there would be 4 regional trains, 2 from Media Distancia and 1 Regional Express.
The assistance of the Government delegate, is part of the road map set by the National Executive to improve the infrastructure of the port city, as highlighted, Diego Conesa.
