After two years fighting the protection of said jail, today a new phase is reopened by which the declaration procedure of good inventoried in favor of the old Central Prison of Cartagena, also known as San Antón Prison.
The previous procedure, requested by Teresa Sánchez Caldentey, had expired after one year had passed without a final decision by the General Directorate of Cultural Property, but while this file was open it was possible that this prison was not demolished or modified, as stipulated the law of patrimony.
"Now there is a new possibility that the DGBC can inventory and protect the prison, we will continue to insist the City Council to acquire it and put it in value for the people, and we continue along the same lines: we need a public and social space, an athenaeum, a meeting place for neighbors, so that culture and art continue to grow in Cartagena.
This is a step, a second step that we hope that the DGBC does not let expire as the previous procedure2E I am glad you have based this proposal on the comprehensive study that two years ago we proposed about the history and architecture of this prison, "said the councilor Teresa Sánchez to know the news.
