The General Directorate of Environment and Mar Menor has informed the City of Cartagena that has proceeded to activate in La Aljorra level 1 (preventive) of the "Framework Protocol for municipal action in environmental episodes of pollution of NO2 and PM10" for overcoming the average daily value of PM10 particles during the day yesterday, September 5.
Specifically, the average daily concentration was 60 μg / m3 (the daily limit value for PM10 established in RD 102/2011 is 50 μg / m3).
The most probable cause of this episode, according to the General Directorate of Environment and Mar Menor, has been the intrusion of Saharan dust scheduled for the day yesterday by the different models consulted.
The recommended measures, during the period that the preventive level remains active, are the following:
Preferably use public transport, avoiding as much as possible the use of private vehicles, especially in journeys within this population.
Do not burn stubble or agricultural margins.
Avoid carrying out earth movements, cultivation areas and other practices that contribute to the resuspension of particles deposited in the soil.
Try to avoid exposure to the ambient air of especially sensitive people, such as children, the elderly and the sick.
