The Rector of the Polytechnic University of Cartagena (UPCT), Alejandro Díaz, hopes to count on the support of the Government and the Segura Hydrographic Confederation (CHS) to be able to advance in the research that is being developed from the Chair of Sustainable Agriculture, sponsored by Caixabank and 15 agricultural entities led by COAG and FECOAM, for the reduction of nitrates and that agriculture can be compatible with the sustainability of the Mar Menor.
Diaz has made these statements the protocol meeting held today with the Government delegate, Diego Conesa.
In this meeting, the Government Delegate informed him that he has transferred the executive summary of the UPCT's research to the Secretary of State for the Environment, Hugo Morán, who had already been at the Tomás Ferro Farm watching the realization of these works.
In this sense, Conesa has indicated that it could work in a coordinated manner with the CHS to continue with the research carried out by the Polytechnic of Cartagena and "make them on a larger scale;
for that new facilities and new water extractions are needed.
In that sense, I believe that this collaboration will exist on the part of the CHS and that it will be an ally to work on university, CHS and General State Administration ".
The first results of the investigation will be made public in October.
The UPCT launched last November the desalobradora of its Experimental Station Agroalimentaria Tomás Ferro that allows to study techniques to reduce the brine generated by the crops, to denitrify it and to value it.
IMPROVE TRAIN FREQUENCY
On the other hand, during the meeting, the Rector has transferred to the Government Delegate the need to increase the frequency of trains so that students "have a train service more suited to their schedules".
Conesa has commented that the visit of the president of RENFE on Friday to Cartagena could be "seized" to arrange a meeting with the Rector and other responsible of the University to send him "a proposal that is sensible, that a better connection can be achieved for the students of Cartagena and Murcia ".
Finally, both have talked about the Government's collaboration to solve the problems that international students are having when they arrive at the UPCT for the management of their visas.
