The City of Cartagena, through the Department of Sustainable Development and Public Function, has submitted to public information through an announcement in the BORM the authorization of exceptional use of land for a project proposed by a private individual of Cartagena, consisting of the construction of a pet cemetery.
Subsequently, it will be sent to the General Directorate for Territorial Planning, Architecture and Housing of the Region of Murcia, for approval.
The individual has presented a report that places the future cemetery in a non-urbanizable land of his property, about 18 thousand square meters of surface, located in the Polygon 11, Plots 13 and 14 in the site of Las Tortugas, located in the vicinity from Pozo de Los Palos.
The promoter justifies the social interest of this facility by the need to have a place to bury the pets, since, he alleges, "it is impossible to find cemeteries for pets, giving us only the option of incineration."
Among the services that this project aims to offer are, in addition to graves, personalized tombstones, floristry, ceremonial halls to give the last goodbye or even psychological therapies for the people affected.
As pointed out by the individual, in Spain there are three cemeteries currently fully operational in Madrid, Barcelona and Valencia, and none in the Region of Murcia.
The only existing facility with similar characteristics in the Region is the crematorium located in the Llano de Brujas.
Likewise, the precursor alleges in the file that this type of activity should be close to the urban nucleus, but far enough away from it, since people, even if they like to have a "place where their pet can have an end, are not supporters of living near a cemetery. "
For this reason a location has been thought of between 10 and 20 minutes from the city center of Cartagena, in a rural and natural environment.
With the aim of minimizing the visual impact, a simple organization of the cemetery has been proposed, which if constructed, will be divided into streets and plots, offering different decoration spaces and pit styles for all species.
As you can read in the report, the building proposed by the promoter is minimal and will be carried out using wooden modules of the "geodesic dome" type (dome).
The constructive system of the "dome" is the assembly of pieces of wood forming triangles that follow a certain frequency, creating a stable structure.
The total of the constructed area that has been proposed is 100 square meters, which will be divided into the following uses:
Module I - reception:
It will house the reception to the cemetery, an office area and a toilet accessible for public use.
Module 2 - last room goodbye:
It will be the room where the relatives can celebrate a small ceremony of homage to the pet.
Module 3 - warehouse:
Storage of tools and equipment for maintenance of the installation.
Module 4 - cameras:
Cold rooms and tanatopraxia room for preparing pets prior to the ceremony.
Finally, the project proposes different types of burials, which will be distributed with a network of pedestrian streets, between which would be located the different tombs or niches for pets, these being of five types:
Minifosas (prepared for smaller pets) or Columbarios (stone niches, in vertical, having a width of approximately 80 cm.)
Earth pits
Holes of honor, located in a preferential place within the complex, will form a square that will serve as a point of reference for users.
