The Department of Culture of the City of Cartagena has reported the death this past dawn, responsible for cultural activities and festival director, Paco Martin, at 61 years of age, as a result of an illness.
The mayor, Ana Belén Castejón, in his name and in the name of the entire municipal corporation, has shown his condolences and deeply regrets his death, since Paco was a man much loved and admired in the world of Culture in Cartagena.
Paco Martin Peñas, a native of Cartagena and City Council official since 1985, devoted his entire professional life to the field of Cultural Management.
Proof of this is that he has been, for 38 years, the director of the Cartagena Jazz Festival, an event he created and directed from the beginning;
He had also been responsible for the theatrical programming of the Nuevo Teatro Circo for 30 years, and spent 18 years as a programmer in the "Other Music" section of the Murcia Regional Auditorium.
He also directed the San Javier Theater Festival for five years.
But perhaps for what he will most be remembered is for being, for 24 years, director of the La Mar de Músicas festival, a festival he created together with José Luis Cegarra and that every year is celebrated in Cartagena during the month of July in several of the most emblematic urban spaces and venues in the city.
It is, without a doubt, one of the events with the greatest international projection in Spain, which through its musical programming and other parallel activities, gives access to a great cultural diversity existing on our planet and generally unknown.
Martín was also the director of the festival 'MuDanzas ~ Encuentros con la Nueva Danza' and one of the members of 'Mestizo', an association that was created at the beginning of the 90s in Murcia, for the dissemination of culture.
The Misa-Funeral will take place this Wednesday, August 15, at 11.00 am at the Tanatorio Estavesa (Paseo Alfonso XIII).
